Welcome home, Terry McGinnis, or is it Batman? When Fiction Meets Reality

If you were growing up in the 90s, you’d most likely be familiar with the name ‘Terry McGinnis’ – he is the caped crusader, Gotham’s tomorrow knight, he is Batman Beyond. Taking over the mantle from an old Bruce Wayne, who bestows the young dark knight with a futuristic suit to take on the criminal underworld on the streets and the skies of Gotham city.

The young caped crusader, named after a real person, entrepreneur Terry McGinnis is coming to the real-life Gotham… Manhattan, to establish a foothold in the software and e-commerce sector. The entrepreneur, who is notable for working with big-budget studios in Hollywood, has undertaken the mammoth task of taking on the likes of Amazon and eBay in Britain alongside investor Robin Vauvelle – perhaps more akin to Bruce Wayne just as in the fictional world of DC, however, for those believing we’re in some sort of simulation, Batman and Robin working together? Now that will surely make a great biopic in a decade or so! Alongside a team of experts such as co-founder Siraaj Ahmed, they managed to build one of the largest British marketplaces. However, this endeavor seemed exhaustive, and a pivot was set in place.

“We’re very good at software, and competing with the likes of Amazon made us lean and resourceful – we took a monumental challenge, and it taught us a lot, like nothing else. Sadly operating a warehouse, a logistic chain and distribution is very difficult and requires a lot of continuously injected capital, people and other resources. We learned a lot throughout that year, all of which is in the new product.” McGinnis is quoted as saying.

The company is Online Shop and is set to take on the likes of Shopify by simplifying the whole process of onboarding and opening your very own online based shop. This is seen as an extremely important aspect to McGinnis, as cited:

“We want to make the world of ecommerce accessible to everyone, anywhere. Whether you’re a small business owner, student or just want to launch something quickly and get going. We’re also looking at all the wonderful opportunities emerging markets can present, especially those in Africa and South-East Asia.”

The young entrepreneur is also a climate activist and an ocean conservationist alongside fellow Hollywood big-hitters such as Leonardo DiCaprio and Joaquin Phoenix, being an ambassador for SeaLegacy/OnlyOne – but who is a heroes’ hero?

“Both Jeff and Mark Bezos are personal heroes of mine, alongside my mentor and investor Robin Vauvelle, of course. They taught me that anything is possible, as long as you have the rigor and tenacity required to undertake such monumental tasks. The only way you learn is through doing it – hard work, dedication and a lot of tireless days and nights, but that’s the fun of it, is it not? I hope I can inspire the same way the aforementioned inspire me daily.”
