When no one seems to listen or understand, top motivator and creative Brandon Chastang lends a listening ear and a helping hand. Having faced the demons of addiction, Brandon has been devoting his time to help others meet theirs and emerge victorious through entertaining and informative skits on social media.
Brandon Chastang was born to teenage parents in Philadelphia in 1981. At a young age, he was not acquainted with the luxury of a happy home and had to crawl his way out of the aggressive environment that his parents’ addiction to crack cocaine had let live rent-free in their house.
Living under the umbrella of fear only strengthened his resolve, and Brandon kept close to his heart the words of his grandmother. “Go to college,” she said, and so he did. Ready to forge his path in the world and ensure others don’t stray from theirs, Brandon hit the books until he graduated from the esteemed Lincoln University (an HBCU) in May 2004 with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice.
The clouds were melting away and, motivated to impact change, Brandon got involved in working with children who struggle with behavioral health and mental disabilities. It was a great time. Brandon was living his dreams, helping individuals achieve their full potential, but fate would not let him have it so easy.
On July 4, 2004, the sky darkened, and Brandon Chastang lay in a hospital bed, writhing in pain from a gunshot wound. To keep him stable and the sharp nails of the pain away, he was prescribed Percocet. Although starting to take Percocet for relief, Brandon found himself reaching for the tablets more often until he woke up 14 years later, with Percocet pills in one hand and the tangled threads of his life in the other.
At that point, Brandon could no longer recognize himself. He was a criminal, a deadbeat father, a user, a manipulator, and instead of entangling them, he was more interested in grabbing a pair of scissors to cut the threads he had clutched in his hand.
Determined to give his life one last shot, however, he checked himself in as an inpatient rehab called Armes Acres in Hamlet, New York. After 30 intensive days of treatment and rehabilitation, Brandon walked out a new man or a familiar one to those who knew him before the unfortunate accident that took him away.
It’s been almost three sober years for Brandon Chastang. It wasn’t easy getting to where he is now, but he’s here, and, for the past few years, he has been rekindling his burning passion for helping those in need.
