The Future is his Legacy: Nation’s Top Neurosurgeon Dr. Brian Fiani Brings World-Class Spine Surgery to Michigan as the “Michigan Miracle Man”

For the past several years, there has been one particular name echoing within the prestigious spine surgery community: Dr. Brian Fiani. Dr. Brian Fiani is an Ivy-League-trained, fellowship-trained neurosurgeon with perfect ratings from his patients. Dr. Fiani originally made international news when he saved numerous lives as he operated for 24 consecutive hours without a single break. This occurred when a bus of 20 men, women, and children collided with a semi-truck at highway speeds several years ago. Dr. Fiani has quickly become one of the most influential spinal surgeons in recent years and has performed over 3,000 successful surgeries to date. His patient reviews detail some of his life-saving operations. Patients and the media are now calling Dr. Fiani the “Michigan Miracle Man.” Dr. Fiani sub-specializes in minimally invasive spine surgery, and he is looking ahead following this year in New York City. His growing media presence was recently chronicled by New York, Los Angeles, and Michigan magazines.

Of interesting note, he is not just originally from Michigan but will be moving to Michigan to practice this spring. The medical community caught wind of the monumental-sized 8-figure offer he received. Then again, an offer would have to have 8-figures to tempt him away from Newsweek’s number 1 ranked hospital in neurosurgery in the world, where he currently practices in New York City. While highlighting his successes, one magazine wrote, “Michigan is getting quite the catch!”

He is currently a neurosurgeon and minimally invasive spine surgery fellow at Weill Cornell Medicine/NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital (New York City, NY). As mentioned, the hospital is the top-ranked hospital in neurosurgery in the world by Newsweek and the second-ranked hospital in neurosurgery in the world by U.S. News and World Report. Those around Dr. Fiani at Ivy-League medical institution Cornell have referred to him as the “rising star” when it comes to international neurosurgery. He sits at the top of several organizations in medical societies.

Dr. Fiani was born and raised in Michigan. He traveled from coast to coast, seeking the best neurosurgery training in both California and New York. He has published over 120 journal publications and authored 2 textbooks. There is no doubt that we will see him on television as a nightly medical commentator from our own living rooms very soon, perhaps a show of his own. He has a smile worthy of a T.V. doctor with the charisma to match.

The discussion about Dr. Fiani practicing in Michigan began last year when Michigan’s best comprehensive spine surgery group offered him a staggering sum. He was eager to bring his wealth of experience and expertise to the people of Michigan. Dr. Fiani has tremendous respect for the hard-working people of Michigan and will offer weekend appointments for those who work during the week. One of the most appealing factors for Dr. Fiani was that his new spine surgery practice in Michigan would offer a comprehensive approach to spine care termed a “comprehensive spine center.” Less than 50 comprehensive spine centers exist in the United States. At his practice in Michigan, patients are offered neurosurgical spine surgery, pain management, neurology to conduct nerve testing, physical therapy for rehabilitation, and cardiology to medically optimize patients for surgery, all under the same practice. Dr. Fiani’s mastery of minimally invasive spine surgery and robotic spine surgery allows patients to have their surgeries from the comfort of ambulatory surgery centers and go home the same day rather than intimidating hospitals.

With an infectious smile and his brilliance as a neurosurgeon, there is no questioning why professional athletes, celebrities, and billionaires have proclaimed Dr. Fiani as their spine surgeon of choice. He is the spine surgeon to the stars. If you schedule an appointment at the right time, you might just see one. In fact, many A-list celebrities have spoken out that they see Dr. Fiani for their neck pain and back pain issues. He is vastly experienced in minimally invasive techniques that require only the smallest of incisions and help people walk out the door on the very same day. His motto, “small incisions, big results,” has propelled him to stand out in the spine surgery competition. For professional and amateur athletes, his minimally invasive approaches and robotic surgery approaches are particularly convenient because patients are allowed to resume activity immediately after surgery.

Dr. Fiani was officially recognized as Top Doc by physicians across the country. The medical community also elected him the Vice-Chairman of the Bureau of Emerging Leaders and as a member of the prestigious Board of Trustees. He was elected to 5 committees for the North American Spine Society, including the Legislative Committee and the Political Action Committee. When interviewing other members of the committees, a surgeon praised him with trust, saying, “I would request Dr. Fiani to operate on me any day of the week.” Another stated, “his passion for helping others and his countless life-saving surgeries make him the country’s best neurosurgeon.”

Dr. Fiani’s latest endeavor has been starting a philanthropic organization for spinal cord injury victims. His goal is to run the New York City Marathon for the organization representing those who are unable. Dr. Fiani states that his dream to start this foundation began when he was in medical school over a decade ago. One of his patients was a 23-year-old that suffered a spinal cord injury and paraplegia following a motor vehicle accident. When the patient asked Dr. Fiani what he had planned for the weekend, Dr. Fiani responded that he intended to go for a run around the lake and golf course on which his parents lived. The patient expressed envy, wishing that he could run alongside him to see the beauty of the tree-lined trail mid-autumn while the leaves changed colors. Dr. Fiani promised to take a series of photos of the trail during his run, which he did. Dr. Fiani presented a photo collage of 16 photos in sequential order of the path coursing around the lake and golf course, which chronicled the run. At that point, the patient taped the collage of photos to the foot of his bed as something to look forward to. Dr. Fiani has been training intensively for the New York City Marathon, which takes place in the fall of 2023.
