For many aspiring artists, pursuing a career in the performing arts requires passion, dedication, and a strong commitment to self-expression. However, the path can present challenges, particularly for female-identifying BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) students navigating financial and systemic barriers. The Daphne Lee Artistic Legacy Award aims to support and encourage students pursuing degrees in the performing arts.
This prestigious, need-based scholarship is open to full-time students currently enrolled or planning to enroll in a four-year accredited university or college while majoring in Music, Dance, Vocal Performance, Music Composition, or Musical Theatre. Valued at up to $3,000, the scholarship is billed directly to the recipient’s university to ease the financial burden of tuition and educational expenses. In addition, finalists will be selected for an interview process to determine the scholarship recipient.
Why This Award Matters
The performing arts industry has been influenced by many artists of color who have contributed significantly to various disciplines. However, despite their influence, many BIPOC artists still face challenges when it comes to accessing resources, funding, and institutional support. The Daphne Lee Artistic Legacy Award is more than just financial assistance—it is a commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in the arts by supporting those often underrepresented in these fields.
By removing financial barriers, this award helps students focus on honing their craft, pursuing opportunities, and building the foundation for a successful career in the performing arts. For many, this scholarship represents a chance to thrive in an industry that has not always been accessible to everyone.
