Ever heard of a podcast that’s all about giving entrepreneurs and creatives their time in the spotlight? That’s exactly what Tamar Turner’s doing with his Down 2 Business Podcast. Let’s dive into Tamar’s world and see what makes him tick.
How It All Began
Picture this: It’s 2019, and Tamar’s fresh out of grad school at Syracuse. Job hunting’s tough, and then bam – the pandemic hits. But here’s where it gets interesting. Tamar remembers a chat he had with his professor, Brent Axe, about his ESPN sports podcast. That conversation? It lit a spark.
“I just stopped making excuses and went for it,” Tamar says. He took the plunge, started interviewing people, and guess what? People loved it. That’s how Down 2 Business was born.
The Secret Sauce? Consistency
Ask Tamar what’s behind his success, and he’ll tell you straight up: it’s all about showing up, day in and day out. “Some days, I’m not feeling it,” he admits. “But I remember it’s not just about me. It’s about helping others succeed too.”
And boy, has that dedication paid off. In just over four years, he’s pumped out more than 185 episodes. By December 2023, the podcast had racked up over 20,000 plays. Not too shabby, right? He’s even made it onto AfroTV twice and gotten shoutouts in magazines like Shoutout HTX and Bold Journey.
A Stage for Every Story
So, what’s the Down 2 Business Podcast all about? Tamar puts it this way: “We believe every story deserves the spotlight.” Whether you’re a business owner, an entrepreneur, or just someone with a creative streak, Tamar wants to hear from you.
Most of the time, it’s virtual interviews, but Tamar’s branching out. He’s done live events and even teamed up with other brands. When asked what makes his podcast special, Tamar grins and says, “You’ve got to experience it to know. Once you’re on the show, you’ll be itching to come back.”
It’s Not All Smooth Sailing
Now, don’t think it’s been an easy ride. Tamar’s a one-man show, juggling everything from editing to promotion. Oh, and did we mention he’s doing this on top of a full-time job?
Then there’s the perfectionist in him. “I’m learning to cut myself some slack,” he says. “Not everything’s going to be perfect, and that’s okay. What I think is just okay might be exactly what someone else needs to hear.”
What’s Next for Tamar?
Tamar’s got big dreams. He’s eyeing his own podcast studio down the road. “Imagine having a dedicated space for in-person and virtual interviews,” he muses. He’s also hoping to build a team and snag some sponsorships to keep the podcast growing.
But why stop there? “My ultimate dream? My own TV show or network,” Tamar reveals. “I’ve always wanted to be on TV, but now instead of sports, I’m all about getting down to business.”
A Word to the Wise
Tamar lives by this motto: “Can’t stop, won’t stop…till we are all on top.” It’s not just about his success; he wants to see everyone win.
His advice for anyone chasing a dream? “Run your own race,” he says. “Your story’s already written. Don’t let timing or anything else hold you back. Just go for it.”
Family Inspiration
Tamar gives a special shoutout to his little brother, Makai. “He taught me a lot about drive and determination,” Tamar shares. “Seeing how passionate he was about his interests really inspired me. I vowed I’d never come to my brother saying I gave up on anything.”
So, if you’re sitting on a business idea or a creative project, Tamar’s got a message for you: “We want to hear your story. Seriously, don’t be shy. Consider reaching out, and we’ll make it possible.”
In a world where entrepreneurship can feel like a lonely road, Tamar Turner and his Down 2 Business Podcast are here to remind us we’re all in this together. And that’s something worth tuning into.
