SmartScout’s 2025 Seller Report Reveals Mounting Challenges as Platform Rolls Out New Tools

Logan, Utah – July 31, 2025 – For Amazon sellers, 2025 is shaping up to be a year of tighter margins, tougher competition, and rising costs. That’s according to a new industry survey from SmartScout, an analytics company that closely tracks the online retail giant’s marketplace.

Alongside its latest report, *Voice of the Amazon Seller 2025*, the Utah-based firm has introduced a slate of updates to its software platform, aimed at helping businesses sharpen their market research and stay competitive.

SmartScout started with a straightforward goal: make sense of Amazon’s vast product, brand, and advertising ecosystem. Today, its customer base ranges from independent sellers to wholesalers, private-label manufacturers, and e-commerce agencies managing multiple accounts. The company’s database covers tens of millions of product listings — known as ASINs — and turns raw data into visual dashboards that highlight performance trends, competitive threats, and sales opportunities.

Tools Get a Major Overhaul

In its significant upgrade in years, SmartScout has added new capabilities to three of its cornerstone tools — Scope, SellerMap, and a set of AI-powered features — while fine-tuning several others.

Scope, the platform’s research module, now digs deeper into historical revenue patterns and allows users to filter results by seller type, product subcategory, or country. The new flexibility, SmartScout says, makes it easier for businesses to compare markets and adjust strategies accordingly.

SellerMap, a tool that visually charts the presence of Amazon sellers, has been given a more dynamic interface. Heatmaps and seller-type filters now make it possible to see where certain product categories are thriving and which sellers dominate particular regions.

Meanwhile, features like Ad Spy, Keyword Detective, Traffic Graph, and Listing Architect have been reworked for faster load times and smoother integration. Even the company’s Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) Calculator — a staple for cost analysis — has been rebuilt to reflect Amazon’s latest fees and shipping costs.

“Our users want data they can trust and act on,” said the SmartScout product team in a prepared statement. “These updates are built around their feedback and our goal to make e-commerce data more useful, visual, and easy to work with.”

Sellers Speak: Profitability Slipping, Support Lagging

The *Voice of the Amazon Seller 2025* report is based on a survey of 325 Amazon sellers. It paints a challenging picture for many, especially mid-sized operators.

More than half of respondents said their profitability fell in 2024, despite two-thirds raising prices to offset higher FBA fees. Of those who increased prices, 60 percent still saw their margins shrink.

Mid-sized sellers — those bringing in between \$100,000 and \$1 million annually — reported a higher rate of account suspensions than other groups. Over a third of them faced some form of suspension last year, often leading to weeks of lost sales.

Satisfaction with Amazon’s seller support is also slipping. Nearly two-thirds of participants believe the platform is no longer a fair playing field, and 46 percent said support quality has declined over the past two years. Sixty percent went further, saying interactions with Amazon’s support team had actively harmed their business.

Reactions to Amazon’s own AI tools were mixed. Just over 15 percent said the features helped their business, while 16 percent reported a negative effect.

“The survey confirms what many sellers have been feeling—Amazon is changing quickly, and it’s becoming harder to stay profitable without deep, strategic insight,” the report noted. “Fee increases, account issues, and limited support are changing how sellers approach the platform.”

Data with a Strategic Edge

SmartScout believes its upgraded tools will help sellers navigate these headwinds. By indexing and updating tens of millions of product listings, the company offers what it describes as a comprehensive view of Amazon’s marketplace.

The platform’s design leans heavily on visual mapping and analysis. Sellers can track category performance without slogging through spreadsheets, explore competitive networks, estimate traffic flows, and assess keyword performance for advertising campaigns.

SmartScout’s customers run the gamut — from small retail arbitrage sellers to wholesale distributors, private-label brand owners, and agencies managing e-commerce portfolios. New users can sign up for a seven-day free trial to test features such as brand revenue tracking, advertising analytics, and profitability forecasting.
