Leveraging adversity is often a road less traveled, but for the power duo behind Tasty W’s, it is a pathway where hardships bred enduring strength, shared resilience, and a noble purpose. Rising from a past riddled with battles of abuse, mental health, and personal health, the West Coast-based catering firm, driven by faith and love, ambitiously sees itself broadening its reach across America.
Delicia Watterson, who hailed from Compton, CA, found herself restarting life in Las Vegas around 2015, seeking refuge from the trials plaguing her romantic encounters. She exchanged messages with Lance Watterson, a Brooklyn native, on an online dating platform and established a meaningful connection despite the shackles of house arrest hindering the latter. A quick but strong bond pushed them to move in together within two weeks of their first encounter.

Taking center stage in their fledgling relationship, their mutual devoutness laid a strong foundation within the couple, marking each weekend with shared church attendances. However, as life often interferes, Lance’s grandmother passed away, leaving an unsettling shift in Lance’s demeanor, fostering an impulsive rapidity seldom witnessed by Delicia. Passing it off in the beginning as an ADHD symptom, she was soon forced to confront a harsher reality when Lance lost his job as his condition spiraled.
Swift action was required as Delicia consulted with Lance’s family to make a hard call–to relocate them both to Virginia, away from their Las Vegas nest, for better support and treatment for Lance’s bipolar disorder. This decision entailed saying farewell to her job, home, and lifestyle, a daunting sacrifice uniting love and necessity.
In the following year, faith played the role of a silent guardian, sheltering their relationship during a challenging period of living apart. Lance, in Virginia, was undertaking medication and treatment, while Delicia battled severe diverticulitis. Encouragement from her family led her to prioritize her health and return to California. This year’s separation saw them leaning on their nightly Bible readings together over the phone, creating an evolved understanding of love and commitment.
Riding these waves of life, the couple eventually found themselves once again under the same roof, this time in Anaheim, living with Delicia’s family. It was during this year that they walked down the aisle and sealed their love in matrimony. During this chapter of their life, an idea blossomed, a vision of a catering company – Tasty W’s. They aspired to “give back” to the community after having surmounted years of tribulations. By selling monthly online dishes and directing the proceeds towards feeding the less fortunate, they hoped to make a difference.

The genesis of Lance’s condition can be traced back to the traumatic loss of his sister, which sparked his first recorded manic episode. Despite the knowledge of Lance’s disorder, it wasn’t until many years had passed and his fateful meeting with Delicia that he was able to access the necessary support and treatment.
Reflecting on her journey with Lance, Delicia feels immense pride over how far they have come. From managing Lance’s untreated manic episodes to fortifying their relationship, she shares a story of victory, resilience, and the power of unwavering faith. With continuous treatment and yearly medical visits, Lance’s ambition triumphed and laid the foundation of their thriving catering affair, Tasty W’s.
Tasty W’s is not just a catering company; it is a testament to second chances, the power of love, and the firm belief that every obstacle is surmountable with God’s grace and hard work. Visibly teeming with pride and motivation, Delicia and Lance echo the sentiments, “If we could move away from our 9 to 5 and just do catering full time and provide as well for the less fortunate, that is the main goal for me right there.”
