Backed by 19 years of experience in audit tax, business operations, financial services, capital markets, and treasury, Joy Mbanugo is making big moves while simultaneously helping other entrepreneurs grow their ventures. Formerly, Joy Harper, Joy Mbanugo is truly the ruler of her own queendom with a clear vision of what she wants to achieve and where she wants to take her many skills. Joy is currently working on Google’s Cloud Partnership Finance team, where she is responsible for evaluating partnerships and cross-functional deals. Prior to her current role, Joy has also worked on the Finance Transformation, Systems, and Integration group, which is responsible for Google’s financial data. She has also worked on the largest ERP to ERP transformation across the country and led the Treasury Tax initiative at Google, a process that streamlined cash management of $100 billion.
Besides working with the greats, Joy Mbanugo has also helped many startups, understanding how such businesses contribute significantly to their respective industries as she is also an entrepreneur herself. Joy is the Chief Financial Officer of Paladin.org, a nonprofit that focuses on supporting underserved founders to structure their startups. In addition, Joy is a newly invested angel investor and consults with startups for free and fun to help them develop a sound financial model and enhance product management.
By interacting with startup entrepreneurs, Joy Mbanugo learned that many are unprepared for growth, especially when it comes to laying out their financial reporting systems. With her expertise on the matter, Joy has been instrumental in ensuring that startups are geared for change and whatever financial circumstances they may face in the future.
Joy Mbanugo currently works in Cloud technology and in her personal time is diving more into the world of cryptocurrency and the metaverse. Many of today’s businesses have to cope with the fast-paced, technology-driven changes, and she wants to be at the forefront of helping business owners build a stable financial structure.
“I want to work with emerging financial technology businesses with fresh-minded individuals. I think that because of my robust tax background, many of these places are like, ‘I don’t get you.’ But I get them. And I want to show them that,” shared Joy Mbanugo. “I want to be where the action is, with the cutting-edge of finance. That is where I belong.”
Asked what drove her to lead such an awe-inspiring professional career, Joy Mbanugo shared that she grew up surrounded by strong women and a strict but loving father who pushed her to live to her fullest potential. Influenced by such strong minds, Joy is doing everything she can to empower others, such as participating in a seminar called How Women Lead, which prepares women for both private and public board seats.
