Entrepreneurs have personal passions like the rest of the world. Often, they use those passions as an escape from long business hours. Sometimes, though, entrepreneurs create opportunities out of their personal convictions.
Entrepreneur Jay Bloom is passionate about the environment. It’s that passion that drives him as co-founder and Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors of Pegasus Group Holdings, which owns and operates renewable energy-based hyperscale data center ecosystems for enterprise colocation, differentiated multi-cloud, and more. These data centers are used as back-up storage for critical and confidential data for a variety of purposes.
Thinking green as an entrepreneur requires innovativeness and persistence. Here are some of the lessons offered by Jay Bloom in his renewable energy ventures.
Look for the Best Resources
When Pegasus Group Holdings was looking to create the largest solar-based data center in the US, the holding company searched for an ideal location. That included a local business community that was good to work with and eager for green technology. Jay landed on one thousand five hundred acres of land in Mohave County, Arizona. Not only was the land highly conducive to generating solar power for the data facility, known as the Hive, but Mohave County was also a willing partner, assisting with details necessary to get the project going.
Use Your Network to Spread the Word
Not every entrepreneur can bring a touch of royalty to a green project, but using key networks to generate interest in a green project is vital for traction. When Pegasus Group Holdings broke ground on The Hive in Arizona, Sarah Ferguson, The Duchess of York, attended the ceremony. A brand ambassador for Pegasus, the Duchess, talked about how much good could come from a sustainable data center.
It’s not necessary to bring an internationally known figure into a green project, but it certainly doesn’t hurt. Still, the idea is to employ the talents and passion of someone well known in the world of sustainability to “sell” the product and encourage others to share in a commitment to renewable energy.
Be Ready to Ramp up Following a Pandemic Slowdown
While many renewable energy projects were put on hold due to COVID-19, projects are expected to ramp up in 2021. This means that there will be renewed interest in pursuing green initiatives. Jay Bloom is an entrepreneur who is always looking for new ways to launch and expand businesses; entrepreneurs with this attitude will be ready to hit the ground running as soon as COVID-19 restrictions ease and green energy projects regain momentum.
