How Matt McGee’s MRM Education Prioritizes Student Well-Being

By: Earl Waller

In a world where academic achievement is often associated with cutthroat competition and excessive preparation, Matt McGee is challenging the norm. As the founder of MRM Education, McGee has set out to reshape the tutoring and college admissions consulting industry by placing student well-being and mental health at the forefront of success. His groundbreaking approach has distinguished MRM Education as a leader in the field, offering families not just academic support but a comprehensive, balanced approach to education.

McGee’s philosophy centers on the idea that real growth happens when students are supported both mentally and academically. Today’s students face immense pressure to maintain perfect grades, ace standardized tests, and, ultimately, secure admission to top a university. However, these demands often come at the cost of their mental health, with a recent study showing that 50% of students found the college application process to be the most stressful thing they’d ever experienced. Recognizing this challenge, McGee has developed a method that balances academic excellence with mental health, allowing students to thrive without burning out. It starts with finding a student’s passion.

“Success is more than just getting into a prestigious college; it’s also about succeeding once you’re there,” McGee explains. “We focus on finding what a student loves and then help them cultivate that to stand out on college applications.”

At MRM Education, this philosophy extends to the tutors as well. Unlike many tutoring services that hire part-time staff from various industries, McGee insists on employing highly skilled educators who are not only experts in their fields but also passionate mentors. The tutors are trained to build meaningful relationships with students, helping them tackle both academic challenges and personal struggles. By fostering strong mentor-student connections, MRM tutors are equipped to support students holistically, understanding that if the student’s are not mentally healthy, they cannot succeed academically.

Additionally, MRM tutors receive specific training in youth mental health support. This enables them to identify signs of stress or anxiety early on, and guide students toward the help they may need.

“A key part of what we do is making sure our tutors and counselors go beyond their traditional roles as educators,” says McGee. “They’re mentors who care about their students’ well-being.”

But McGee’s commitment to quality doesn’t stop at mental health support. He has implemented a compensation model that sets MRM Education apart from others in the industry, paying tutors and counselors 300% more than the industry standard.

“This ensures that MRM attracts top-tier professionals who are dedicated to the company’s mission of fostering student success. Parents don’t want to pay top-dollar for some part-time tutor – they want excellence, flexibility and reliability. Our pay scale guarantees they get it,” McGee states.

McGee also maintains a significant social media presence – His instagram page @mattmcgee_edconsulting boasts thousands of followers and is populated mostly by videos offering free insights into the admissions process. It’s his way of offering an expensive service to those who may not be able to afford his price tag, which goes as low as $160 an hour, but goes beyond 6-figures for an all-inclusive service.

“It’s an expensive service”, he says. “Not everyone can afford it, but we don’t want to be gatekeeping valuable information. Everyone deserves this support.”

That’s why he dedicated his facebook page, Free College Admissions Consulting with Matt McGee to sharing even more advice, celebrating student achievements and fostering a community around supportive learning experiences. It all allows prospective families a glimpse into how McGee and MRM transform lives by emphasizing balance alongside academic rigor.

The feedback from parents and students highlights MRM’s impact. Success stories go beyond improved grades or acceptance into top colleges—students report increased confidence, personal growth, and a renewed passion for learning. McGee’s approach proves that when students are supported both academically and emotionally, they achieve more than just academic milestones; they develop skills and resilience that will benefit them for life.

As the education system continues to evolve in response to modern challenges, pioneers like Matt McGee are leading the way. By emphasizing student wellness alongside academic performance, MRM Education is setting a new standard for how education can better serve students in today’s world.

McGee’s mission to integrate mental health into academic success is more than just an innovation in education—it’s a model for how the system can be reimagined to create compassionate, well-rounded learners. His work inspires others in the field to build educational environments where student well-being is just as important as their achievements, fostering lasting success without sacrificing mental health.
