More people than ever are realizing the opportunities of real estate. Property is on the rise as a profession and an investment, especially as the value offered by traditional banks is so low. But with so many players in the real estate world, how do you find a place for you and your money?
That’s a question that Chance Owens has answered. The solution lay in his past, with a knowledge base and industry contacts exceeding those of his competitors. While the North Carolinian’s property career is still growing, he has begun to forge a real estate future without leaving integrity behind.
Building beginnings
Unlike many in the sector today, Chance wasn’t born and raised to be an agent. His origin was on the other side of the property life cycle, which gave him a unique perspective he brings to every deal today.
“I actually used to build houses,” he reveals. “My Dad started a construction company in 1999, and I went to work for them during evenings, weekends, and summers. When I graduated high school, I built houses full-time. That’s where I fell in love with the housing industry.”
So when a deal comes through the door, Chance can look at it through two pairs of eyes. First and foremost, he’s an agent, trying to help his clients close deals as seamlessly as possible. But, should any issues arise, he’s a builder, rectifying problems before his client even has time to start worrying.
Expert ease
People are so convinced of real estate as a dedicated career that many agents become tunnel-visioned, focusing solely on the money and forgetting that someone’s home is at stake. Some claim to buck that trend, but Chance is one of the few who can provide practical solutions rather than smooth-talking his way out of it.
One example is foundation cracks, which often cause parties to get cold feet and back out of deals. Chance knows that they are fixable and how to do so. He once sold a property that previously had $30,000 of permanent damage through his ‘uncommon knowledge’ and tenacity.
Connections, collaborations, and candor
Where he doesn’t personally possess the expertise, his expansive network kicks in. From his time working within his father’s company, the real estate professional can call on the help of contractors from every aspect of construction. Whether the issue is structural or electrical, he has the connections to get the most challenging deals over the line.
Chance’s niche doesn’t only cover his own business. Unlike many real estate agents, he believes he owes it to his contemporaries to help them if necessary. He views his counterparts across the table as collaborators rather than competitors.
“I help agents that are new to the game because I was there at one time, too,” he says. “I ran across some agents that could’ve been nasty but recognized that I was new and helped me learn. I try to repay that favor.”
For example, if something is impeding the seller’s agent, Chance won’t hold them to ransom as many others would. His network and resources are theirs because Chance’s sole motivation is to fulfill his clients’ wishes. Underpinning it all is honesty, which the real estate agent believes is intrinsically valuable and can thrive alongside success.
A Chance for change
Inadvertently, Chance’s late father laid the groundwork for the achievements his son is realizing today. His construction background sets him apart from agents afraid to get their hands dirty. His connections help him overcome make-or-break scenarios.
But most significantly, Chance takes inspiration from his father’s steadfast commitment to stability. While his dad never chanced his family’s security on the wind, he assured his son: “If that risk comes, you need to take it.” When Chance Owens threw his energy and knowledge into a career in real estate, it was with his father’s example in mind.
