Traditionally, sustainable homes have been known to cost approximately $400,000 on average, according to the census bureau. Most people wouldn’t think of a sustainable home being this costly, but a wide array of premium materials and innovative technologies go into establishing them as self-sustaining residences. When one adds on the cost of labor needed to construct these homes as well as the land they may sit on, it begins adding up to a high cost for something no bigger than a 600-sqft apartment. “The new model, the Comet, will be available to order beginning on November 15, 2022,” Draplin says. “Additionally, our new Comet model will not require permitting like our 399 square foot models, so we’re excited for residents to be able to order their homes more quickly because of this.” Financing is currently limited to the new Comet model as well, but the Eclipse financing team is working on a larger rollout to offer financing options for all of the models, meaning aspiring self-sustaining homeowners can start ordering their units sooner at affordable rates.
