David Mitchell, a businessman and a former candidate for Omaha City Council, is a major player in the region. In addition to being the owner of a number of companies, he is also an activist who has organized several food drives for the homeless, provided clothing for foster children, paid off people’s debts, given speeches at various schools, and much more. The former proprietors of Gamers fell out of business in 2018, and he bought the company then. Currently, he has retail outlets in both Nebraska and Iowa. At age 19, Mitchell founded his own video game business called “Game Repair Shop,” which he ran for several years before acquiring Gamers.
Two of the state charges against David Mitchell had been handed down back in 2020, but he was able to challenge all three of them in recent months successfully. The latter was for burglary, while the other two were for alleged sexual assault. Without any evidence or proof, investigator Robert Wiley barged into Mitchell’s business and arrested the store manager. The investigator then fabricated a criminal complaint document claiming to have Facebook messages and video evidence to back up Rodriguez’s claims which led to his arrest.
Three years and well over a hundred thousand dollars in legal bills and ten different plea deals later, the prosecutor’s office suddenly withdrew the case two weeks before trial. The trial that was set to begin on August 29, 2022, has been dropped due to lack of evidence, and Mitchell maintains his innocence, as stated from the very beginning. David is a pinnacle of the unfair justice system that constantly tries to tear down African Americans alike.
“He’s not just a client; I consider him a friend,” Cannon said of Mitchell when asked by Omaha World-Herald. “I really do believe this was a just verdict.” The state publication is among the only local papers to report David’s innocence, further displaying that the media in Omaha isn’t interested in clearing his name. Douglas County attorney Don Kleine targeted him for several years on his now acquitted SA charges proving to be unsuccessful in the end. Mitchell continues to promote his program of economic stimulation and activism across the Omaha region despite the turmoil and insults that have surrounded his reputation.
