Catalyst of Success: The Unforeseen Journey of H. Stuart Kotler and Prospertunity’s Ascension

We know that life can take some very unexpected turns. Such was the case during a visit from a pest control company to the home of retired motivational speaker and trainer H. Stuart Kotler. It led to the birth of a highly effective motivational training program, Prospertunity, and has landed Kotler with an upcoming cover story on well-known platforms.

Stuart was enjoying retirement, cruising around the countryside in his convertible that he calls his low blood pressure medicine-mobile, and listening to his favorites—smooth jazz and oldies music. Then, the pest control sales representative and Kotler started talking about sales—something with which Stuart had much success and interest. The agent was asked, “Just out of curiosity, at the end of your presentation, how often does one homeowner turn to the other and ask what they think about your offer.” The agent told Stuart, “It happens all the time.”

Well, that was all that was needed to rekindle the flames inside Kotler’s belly to motivate a new generation of salespeople to learn to sell professionally. In fact, when Stuart heard that question from one of his customers, his closing average was off the charts.

He wrote The Artistry of Selling Professionally and created Prospertunity, a ninety-minute motivational training conference to help sales personnel attain professional career growth and personal financial security.

Prospertunity is a culmination of decades of high achievement by Stuart. As a firstyear teacher, he was called upon by his department chair to present a demonstration lesson to colleagues in his department. Upon entering the sales profession, in his first year, he won his company’s Sales Representative of the Year award with a seventy-three percent closing average. During his career, he once had nineteen sales in a row! For more than three decades, Stuart was a high producer compensated by commission only! “I take more pride in the fact that I maintained a stable sales team, and they worked on commission-only as well,” Stuart points out.

He adds, “When I think about it, I want to give back again because I really have accomplished so much in sales through training, motivating and inspiring.” Over the decades, he gave more than ten thousand sales presentations, presented over three thousand educational magic shows to elementary school children (as part of a marketing strategy), and conducted over three hundred Money Magic seminars to more than ten thousand Maryland State employees to help them turn a beer budget into a champagne retirement.

Stuart says, “In many cases, a sale will be made. It’s just a question whether it will be left on the table for the next salesperson to earn. As to the driving factors for success, Kotler asserts that everything begins with integrity. He maintains, “Professionals seek to identify the needs or wants of the prospect, and then they develop their interaction from the perspective of the prospect. There is one more essential element the professional must bring into play, and that is commitment. With it, you have found the catalyst to turn a job into a career.”

But sales productivity is not the only thing by which to measure success. “Sales professionals should seek personal and financial accomplishment as well,” Stuart insists. He goes on, “They are integral to (remove professional) success because, as professionals (remove they) approach each new prospect, these two additional (remove other) achievements help provide confidence and calm which are (remove is) conducive to a client-oriented sales dialogue.

So, with this renewed fervor, H. Stuart Kotler has woven together (remove interconnected) all areas of his career accomplishments to create Prospertunity, designed to sky rocket sales productivity and greatly reduce employee turnover. If you are a sales director or have the ear of one, Prospertunity can be right around the corner.
