Anthony Beverley grew up in West Philadelphia’s Mill Creek Projects. Life wasn’t easy, but soon he realized it was his training ground to become somebody and create a name for himself.
In his youth, Beverley would trail alongside his grandfather on his real estate ventures. It was this that piqued his interest in business and ultimately inspired him to become an entrepreneur. A few years later, his godfather Dr. Joe Williams, would take him under his wing as a trainee.
Every day, Beverley would keep working, growing his network, and look for houses to buy. He strived to teach himself everything he could about real estate. Finally, in 2014, things started to go his way. With his business growing more than he could hope for, he began to look at his life differently. He had taken a more in-depth look at his life, his achievements, and realized that there were commitments he needed to refocus. “I asked God to build my life up and remove things that weren’t earned with hard work,” he shares.
Finally, Beverley decided to give up his career as a champion street bike racer and concentrate on his budding health care agency, along with the development of his other real estate properties.
In partnership with Dr. Joe Williams, Beverley created Artisan TownHomes. This was a project that aimed to transform the several blocks adjacent to the Avenue of the Arts -1400 Bainbridge, Pemberton, and Kater Streets into a place for high-end contemporary homes.
“It took 12 years to collect all the land, demolish the dilapidated houses and build a total of 33 luxury townhomes we built from the ground up. They sold from $900,000-$1.7 million—and we, The Williams Group, sold all 33 of them,” Beverley shares proudly.
With an experience of selling over a hundred properties in the Philadelphia area, Beverley is continuing to expand his real estate ventures, taking over the region’s public research university. They are currently working on the Temple University campus to build 400 one and two-bedroom units with parking areas for the institution’s faculty, staff, and students. Beverley explains, “It’ll create over 900 jobs and will generate revenue within the community that has a high unemployment rate in that area. Also, with everything that’s going on, people need jobs as well.”
Beverley also works with Champion boxer Floyd Mayweather, who is his friend and partner in business. The two partnered several years ago to work with The Money Team (TMT), a company promoting sports and lifestyle. Beverley prides himself on being an asset to said company, and any organization he partners with. “I’m a leader and my own boss,” said the entrepreneur when asked about his role.
During his time off, Beverley makes it a point to spend quality time with his family. He currently has three daughters and one grandchild, whom he enjoys being with.
Beverley also travels to different schools to inspire students and share the secret of his success—hard work and faith. The entrepreneur emphasizes that although he has achieved much now, he was not born with a silver spoon. He still had to work his way to where he is now.
