Environment Programme, the fashion industry is responsible for 10% of global carbon emissions, more than all international flights and maritime shipping combined.

Active After Coffee, a streetwear brand based in Miami, is countering this trend by integrating carbon-neutral operations across its business model, setting a new standard in the fashion industry.

Operational Strategies and Impact

Bilal Hallab, founder of Active After Coffee, spotlights the importance of this shift. “Our approach to carbon neutrality is about being proactive, not reactive. We believe in taking significant steps to ensure a sustainable future,” he remarks. This proactive approach is crucial, given that the fashion industry’s emissions are projected to rise by more than 60% by 2030, according to the Global Fashion Agenda.

Active After Coffee has embedded sustainability into its core operations, from sourcing organic cotton to significantly reducing water and pesticide usage and adopting 100% compostable and biodegradable packaging. These efforts are essential in reducing the overall carbon footprint of its products. The brand reports that 88% of its cotton is organic, contributing to a substantial decrease in the environmental impact associated with its clothing production.

“The simple choice of packaging material or the type of cotton can have extensive effects on our carbon output. We aim to make these choices count,” says Hallab. In addition to material choices, Active After Coffee contributes to climate protection projects, such as the Portel-Para Amazonas Protection initiative, which was created to mitigate deforestation and protect biodiversity in the Amazon Rainforest.

Challenges and Opportunities

The journey toward carbon neutrality in the highly competitive fashion industry has challenges. The initial costs and the complex supply chains can be significant barriers. Active After Coffee views these challenges as opportunities to innovate and lead by example.

“If we can demonstrate that sustainability is feasible and profitable, we believe other companies will also be motivated to rethink their operational models,” Hallab states. This vision is crucial now that consumer awareness and demand for sustainable products are rising.

Active After Coffee is dedicated to sustainability but still has a heart for the fashion world. This brand balances environmental responsibility with cutting-edge fashion trends. The brand name itself captures its ethos—energetic, vibrant, and ready to face the day just after a cup of coffee.

The brand is expanding its presence in the fashion capitals of the United States. “We are in discussions for placements and partnerships with several concept stores in Miami, Los Angeles, and New York,” Hallab shares. These moves are set to elevate the brand’s visibility and accessibility, embedding it further into the urban fashion scene.

Anticipation for its upcoming releases is also building. Active After Coffee is finalizing its second drop and a surprise capsule collection aimed at delighting its rapidly growing customer base. “Our first drop was immensely successful, embraced by the community, fashion enthusiasts, and social influencers alike. It’s selling fast, with almost all items now in limited quantities,” adds Hallab.

These initiatives showcase Active After Coffee’s dynamic approach to fashion—constantly innovating while staying true to its mission of sustainable style.
