A solo show of “You, Through Me”, at 4C Gallery in Los Angeles, is a VR Experience project that emerges as a profound exploration of self-perception in the modern age. Shijia Luo, the creator of the independent project, aims to inspire individuals to reflect on the sensory and relational experiences of the year 2060. The opening of the solo was on the 2nd of March when the audiences who experience the exhibit are challenged to speculate the depth of their human identity when so much of our lives is now mediated by technology. 

“You, Through Me” was conceptualized during the COVID-19 pandemic. Quarantined in Shanghai in December 2021, Shijia crafted a narrative envisioning a future where remote services and technology are essential to our daily existence. A fascinating combination of personal inspiration and speculative fiction, the story opens up the conversation about what it means to be fully human in an era driven by human-made machines.

“You, Through Me” was showcased in 4C Gallery, and TWHA WHIF (The World Hath Aged, Whilst Humanity is Fledgling) in Gong Gallery, both in Los Angeles early this year. As a combination of a live VR experience, a film trailer, and a film of recorded streaming footage, the project gives viewers a personal glimpse into the fictional world of Sym Oasis 2060. 

The Virtual Reality (VR) experience of “You, Through Me” gives audiences the unique opportunity to engage directly with the story through the perspective of each character. As the story unfolds, the audience is fully immersed and witnesses the story through Shijia’s creative lens. Shijia notes that the story itself was highly influenced by recent advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), giving viewers a multifaceted perspective. 

At the heart of “You, Through Me” is the complex, tangled web between humankind and our own creations. As society advances in the next several decades, how will our experiences as human beings shift in ways we haven’t even imagined? The audience of the exhibition gets to contemplate just how much technology permeates everyday life and, in turn, shapes our identity. 

Currently based in San Francisco, Shijia brings a rich background of experiences from Chengdu, Sydney, London, and Beijing to her work. As a versatile visual designer, she has experience across both 2D and 3D design, using her sharp skills to communicate complex stories like “You, Through Me.” Her prior work in print and digital media reflects her passion for using design as a tool for connection and self-expression.

Shijia independently created a project that embraces questions about the future of our digital selves. What makes us human: man or machine? Weixi Zhang: In crafting accessible technology, my focus is on creating solutions that intuitively fit into the user’s life and context. Currently, widely used apps for visually impaired individuals mainly rely on OCR technology, enabling scanning and image recognition functions through AI. Despite not being entirely barrier-free, these apps remain popular, significantly aiding users in their daily lives. Our AI glasses are designed to overcome these limitations, providing directional guidance without the need for precise alignment, translating our design philosophy into practical, everyday convenience.

Cerebral Palsy

Uliana devoted herself to studying this creative art, and her rapid success left her no choice. She actively participated in significant tattoo conventions in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and San Diego, where she made new connections and gained valuable experience from leading artists in the industry.
