By: Elena Mart

From July 16-28, 2024, The Asia Art Week with the million-dollar estate Chanel Mansion One SLT hosted an insightful platform for delving into the luxurious lifestyle associated with Eastern nobility. The exhibition “Aesthetic Encounters: Masterpieces and Luxurious Living” seamlessly integrated ancient treasures with modern opulence, drawing significant public interest.

This exhibition presented a collection of forty art pieces valued at 2 billion CNY. It encompasses works by Western artists such as Pablo Picasso (paintings on paper) and prominent figures in Eastern art, including Zheng Banqiao, Qi Baishi, Zhang Daqian, and Li Keran. Additionally, it features notable works by Chinese artists who pursued studies in France, such as Xu Beihong, Lin Fengmian, Wu Guanzhong, and Sang Yu (noted for his Pink Period). A special highlight is the premier display of Emperor Huizong of Song’s “Pine and Eagle” on silk. The event also showcases a variety of precious porcelain from the Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, encompassing exquisite pieces from the Yuan Blue and White, Yongle, Xuande Blue and White, and Chenghua Doucai ceramics.

To own Chinese art is to own a piece of history. According to Nicolas Chow of Sotheby’s auction house,’ To hold an emperor’s seal is to grasp history itself.’These emotional and cultural connections greatly enhance the perceived value of these works of art.

The Chinese art market offers a distinctive investment opportunity through historical treasures such as Yuan Dynasty Blue and White porcelain, Ming Dynasty Yongle blue and white porcelain, and Chenghua doucai porcelain. These items not only epitomize refined taste but also symbolize status and cultural discernment. This exhibition operates on an appointment-only basis, providing all guests with exclusive time to appreciate the artworks. Special invitations have been extended to prominent figures in the art world, including cultural relics experts, art critics, and renowned senior collectors who will attend and evaluate the displayed artworks. This annual art appraisal event from Asia Art Week is co-hosted by the World Chinese Art Committee, and special coverage will be provided by American Wall Street Satellite TV.

The founder hails from a family with a long-standing tradition of academic excellence, with ancestors who held esteemed roles as imperial scholars at China’s renowned Hanlin Academy. This esteemed lineage was responsible for the composition of imperial edicts and the documentation of historical events. From an early age, Ping Du was immersed in art and culture. He later established Asia Art Week, guided by the principle that “True art is meant to be shared.” In contrast to the traditional practice of maintaining artworks within the confines of private collections, he advocates for their accessibility to a broader community of art enthusiasts. He underscores the importance of collecting to foster public appreciation for the cultural and historical significance of the pieces. This ethos reflects the refined taste of an Eastern aristocrat, where art serves as both a lifestyle and a globally shared legacy. Asia Art Week aims to establish exclusive private clubs in cultural clubs like Beijing and Hong Kong, creating spaces for the elite to integrate art into their lives. These clubs will invite collectors from around the world to experience the sublime beauty of Eastern antiquities, fostering a community that values and protects cultural heritage.
