Faced with a full house of three dogs and guided by their preconceived notions, the family reached out to several no-kill shelters and pit bull rescues, seeking a suitable home for their unexpected guest.

Hours passed, and as attempts to connect with shelters proved futile, the family’s founder returned home, unsure of what awaited him. The anxiety of encountering an unfamiliar Pit Bull in the yard, mixed with concerns about territorial disputes, lingered in the air.

To his surprise, what unfolded was a heartwarming scene of acceptance and love. Slowly and cautiously, the family’s founder approached the Pit Bull, placing a chair nearby. As the Pit Bull’s eyes glistened in the darkness, he approached, and in a moment that would define their destinies, he leaped onto the chair and nestled into the founder’s lap. The bond was instant, and the family knew that this Pit Bull, now named Rocky, had chosen them.

What followed over the next four years was a testament to the transformative power of unconditional love. Rocky became more than a pet; he became a source of inspiration, a living example of the joy that can be found in embracing love without reservations. Rocky’s vibrant energy and undeniable charm melted the hearts of everyone he encountered, challenging the negative stigmas associated with Pit Bulls.

On a fateful day in February 2018, the family faced an unexpected and devastating blow. Rocky, their beloved companion, succumbed to Immune-Mediated Hemolytic Anemia (IMHA) after a heart-wrenching three-week battle. The disease, attacking his red blood cells, left the family in an emotional whirlwind, navigating a series of veterinary appointments and specialist consultations.

Rocky’s passing left a void that seemed insurmountable. The grief was particularly challenging for his human mom, who Rocky had once saved by detecting her cancer. The inability to reciprocate that life-saving gesture weighed heavily on her, plunging the family into a profound sadness that seemed bottomless.

In the midst of mourning, an idea blossomed—a way to heal and perpetuate Rocky’s legacy of love. The family envisioned channeling their grief into a force for good, ensuring that Rocky’s memory would be one of joy rather than the painful last weeks of his life.

In honor of Rocky, the family founded Kennel to Couch, an initiative born out of a commitment to helping Pit Bulls find homes and challenging misconceptions surrounding the breed. The organization collaborated with shelters, trainers, and local community partners to sponsor Pit Bulls that had languished in shelters for extended periods.

Kennel to Couch became a beacon of hope, working hand in hand with shelters to save dogs from the threat of euthanasia due to overcrowding. The organization pledged to grow adoption sponsorship packages, offering a lifeline to Pit Bulls in need and ensuring they found loving families.

Rocky’s love, too immense to vanish with the wind, lives on through Kennel to Couch. The family’s commitment to Pit Bull rescue is a testament to the enduring power of love and the transformative impact one dog’s life can have on an entire community.
