The humanitarian spirit seen in Sabih Faraz’s work is traceable back to his childhood. Coming from a well-off family, he never personally experienced financial hardship. However, the charitable spirit of his parents left a lasting impression on him. Indeed, Sabih wants to be a doctor not for the money but to help people. “I’ve always seen my parents do a lot of charity. I’ve always seen them growing up, giving to people. So it’s just natural. I like helping people,” Sabih recalls. This early orientation towards philanthropy created within him a desire to impact other people’s lives, especially those less fortunate.

Hope Special Foundation

Some of Sabih’s most notable work includes his engagement with the Hope Special Foundation. This organization, which aims to assist the blind, holds a special place in his heart. Sabih’s father, who passed away in February of this year, struggled with a disease progressing towards blindness before his death. “With Hope Special Foundation helping the blind, it has a special place in my heart because I’ve seen him struggle when he wasn’t able to see stuff,” Sabih says. This very personal connection has made him committed to its cause and existence.

Overcoming Challenges

Sabih’s philanthropic efforts are not without their challenges. Perhaps his primary challenge is getting individuals to part with their money to support his causes. “The biggest challenge is convincing people, right? I don’t mind asking for money if that’s for a good cause,” he admits. To address this, Sabih is working on becoming more visible and validating his efforts by creating a website and other marketing strategies. He aims to achieve this level to ensure that any prospective financier has confidence in funding his projects.

Expanding Philanthropic Horizons

Sabih’s philanthropic work extends beyond the Hope Special Foundation. He works with different local foundations in Pakistan, including JDC, a large nonprofit organization. In doing so, he seeks to help these individuals become more independent using the resources they give him to help others on their journey to self-sufficiency. “My vision is to help them stand on their feet and get it going for themselves down the road so they can provide for their family,” Sabih notes. This approach reflects his belief in sustainable aid, where beneficiaries are given opportunities to build better futures for themselves.

Investing in Education and Basic Necessities

Another important area that Sabih targets is the education sector. He provides for over thirty families and guarantees their children’s right to education up to the high school level. He continues, “With real estate, at least you will have some sort of income that you can at least sustain that financial part of giving.” Besides education, Sabih is also involved in a charitable organization that supplies clean water for people in remote areas of Pakistan. He makes it easier to get this resource by installing hand pumps in Thar, a desert region.

Real Estate: A Sustainable Source of Funding

It is, therefore, for this reason that Sabih has invested in real estate to continue funding his charities. This was made to ensure that he had a source of income that he could use to fund his charitable activities. “With real estate, at least you will have some sort of income that you can at least sustain that financial part of giving,” he notes. It also helps him enhance his business of serving the people in the community whenever finances are bad.

Throughout his career, Sabih has been inspired by mentors who share his passion for giving back. One such mentor is Hanif Roshan, a global businessman who works to improve children’s education. “Whenever I talk to him, I get motivation and he’s one of the reasons that is kind of motivating me to do more,” Sabih shares. Taking advantage of the expertise of a mentor has boosted his career and helped him a lot.

From the Cannes red carpet to the closets of style-savvy clients, YLYNX designs are more than just dresses; they are regal attire for everyday queens. How has moving from Ukraine to Canada influenced your design philosophy and style? What cultural differences between these two countries have impacted your creative process? 

I don’t think my design style has changed much. It’s like handwriting, you stick to that just as you do. I believe I got a lot of inspiration and grew as a fashion designer in Canada. It’s a multicultural country and very welcoming to immigrants so many people can feel comfortable at home. Also, I got inspiration from other cultures to create beautiful designs.

What was it like showcasing your creations at the Cannes Film Festival? How did you feel wearing your handmade dresses on the red carpet, and what effect has this exposure had on your brand and your growth as a designer? 

It was an incredible honor and a dream come true. To see my brand and wear one of the dresses myself on the red carpet at such a prestigious event was surreal. It validated all the hard work and creativity that went into YLYNX. The positive feedback and support from the fashion community were overwhelming and deeply gratifying. This is a big step forward for me as a designer and for my fashion brand to introduce my passion and creativity in dresses to people all over the world and those who attended and participated in the event.

YLYNX aims to make women feel like royalty. How do you incorporate this idea of regal elegance into your designs? What specific features, fabrics, or techniques do you use to ensure each garment embodies this royal essence? 

Our dedication to craftsmanship is second to none. Each gown is meticulously crafted with precision and care, reflecting our commitment to quality and excellence.  I personally choose the finest fabric, we do a lot of handmade work, and dresses are very exclusive and custom-made. And this is the style of how we work…good quality fabric with embroidery, a lot of stones, beautiful design, handmade with special techniques.

Your brand philosophy is about making every woman feel like a queen, no matter her background, size, or shape. How does YLYNX implement this broadening approach? What range of sizes do you offer, and how do you ensure your designs reflect and empower diverse body types? 

Our dresses are designed to enhance a woman’s natural beauty and elevate her confidence, allowing her step by step into her power and embrace her role as the queen of her own life. We customize all gowns, so every woman, no matter size and shape, can look fabulous and confident.

What’s the story behind the name ‘YLYNX’? Does it have a special meaning related to your brand’s mission or your personal journey? 

The name YLYNX is all about my brand mission and personal journey. I combined them all and it turned out to be my brand. Y- the first letter of my name, lynx- Canadian lynx, which represents grace, inherent strength, beauty, and feminine power… everything about my queens.

How do you balance being a wife, mother of two, and fashion designer? How has this multifaceted experience influenced your brand’s ethos and the practical aspects of running your business? 

I have a very busy life and sometimes it’s very difficult to find the balance, but I have great support from my husband and family, which makes it easier. I learned to set tasks and priorities in different situations and act according to the situation. When you are a mother, you can solve many problems at the same time… haha. In business, when you have a great team, you don’t really need to be always physically present, many problems could be resolved over the phone calls. It’s always important to work in a smart way.
