Is AI Really That Reliable For Contracts And Legal Advice?

By: SEO Mavens

In the fast-paced world of startups, time is a precious commodity. From securing funding to building a customer base, entrepreneurs are constantly juggling multiple tasks, often with limited resources. One critical aspect for startups is the creation of legal contracts, which traditionally involves engaging legal professionals to ensure accuracy and compliance. However, the emergence of AI-powered contract generation tools has sparked a debate within the startup community: should startups rely on AI to create legal contracts for them?

On one hand, the allure of AI-generated contracts lies in their potential to save time and reduce costs. These AI platforms utilize sophisticated algorithms and natural language processing to generate contracts quickly, often within minutes, based on predefined templates and clauses. For cash-strapped startups operating in highly competitive markets, this efficiency can be a game-changer, allowing them to allocate resources to core business activities rather than hefty legal fees.

Moreover, AI-powered contract generation tools claim to minimize human errors and inconsistencies commonly found in manually drafted contracts. By leveraging vast databases and learning from extensive legal libraries, these systems can spot potential issues, suggest relevant clauses, and ensure a certain level of standardization across contracts. This standardization can be particularly beneficial for startups aiming for scalability and consistency in their operations and agreements.

However, the reliance on AI for legal contracts is not without its drawbacks and limitations. While these platforms offer speed and cost-effectiveness, they might lack the nuanced understanding and contextual insight that human lawyers bring to the table. Startups often face unique challenges and require tailored agreements that address specific industry nuances or innovative business models, which AI-generated contracts may struggle to accommodate adequately.

Additionally, legal matters involve more than just the drafting of contracts; they often require strategic thinking, negotiation skills, and an understanding of the broader legal landscape. AI, at its current stage, lacks the ability to navigate complex negotiations or provide legal advice beyond the scope of predefined algorithms. This limitation can leave startups exposed to unforeseen legal risks or disputes that require human expertise to resolve effectively.

Furthermore, the use of AI in legal contracts raises concerns about accountability and liability. Who is responsible if an AI-generated contract fails to cover a crucial aspect or leads to legal complications? Startups might find themselves in uncertain territory, as the legal validity and enforceability of AI-generated contracts could be questioned in certain jurisdictions or circumstances.

As technology continues to evolve, so does the debate around the role of AI in legal practices. Some argue for a hybrid approach, where startups leverage AI for initial contract drafting to expedite the process and reduce costs, but involve human lawyers for review and customization. This hybrid model combines the efficiency of AI with the expertise and judgment of legal professionals, aiming to strike a balance between speed, accuracy, and contextual understanding.

In conclusion, while AI-powered contract generation tools offer undeniable advantages in terms of speed and cost-effectiveness, startups must approach their use with caution. While suitable for standard agreements and basic contracts, these tools might fall short in addressing the intricacies and specific needs of startups operating in dynamic and innovative industries. Finding the right balance between AI-driven efficiency and human legal expertise remains crucial for startups seeking to mitigate risks and ensure the robustness of their contractual agreements in the long run.

How Can AI Help If I Can’t Fully Rely On It?

AI-powered contract drafting tools employ natural language processing and machine learning algorithms to analyze vast repositories of legal documents and case law. These tools can swiftly generate initial drafts of contracts by identifying relevant clauses, standard language, and key terms based on predefined parameters. For lawyers working with startups, this capability expedites the drafting process, allowing them to focus on higher-value tasks that require human judgment and expertise.

Moreover, AI assists lawyers in ensuring compliance and reducing errors. These tools can flag potential inconsistencies, omissions, or legal risks within contracts, providing valuable insights that help lawyers refine and tailor agreements to suit the specific needs of a startup. By minimizing human error and ensuring a certain level of standardization, AI-powered drafting tools contribute to the creation of more robust and legally sound contracts.

Additionally, AI doesn’t merely assist in drafting; it evolves through continuous learning. As lawyers work with these tools and provide feedback, AI systems improve their accuracy and efficiency over time. This learning process allows lawyers to refine their approaches, adapt to changes in laws or regulations, and better serve the evolving needs of startups.

In essence, the integration of AI in contract drafting empowers lawyers working with startups by optimizing their workflows, enhancing the quality of contracts, and allowing for more strategic and value-driven legal counsel. By harnessing the capabilities of AI, lawyers can navigate the complexities of contract drafting with greater ease, delivering efficient and tailored legal solutions that support the growth and success of startups in today’s competitive landscape.

Jennifer Hyman: The Power of Likability in Building a $96 Million Empire

Jennifer Hyman Shares Her Secret

Jennifer Hyman, the CEO of Rent the Runway, learned a pivotal lesson in her career as a 22-year-old intern that would later contribute to building her company into a market giant worth $95.93 million. In a recent talk at Stanford Graduate School of Business, she emphasized the importance of being likable in achieving her goals. This lesson not only helped her persuade colleagues but also played a significant role in convincing prominent designers to partner with her. In this article, we delve into the journey of how likability became the driving force behind Jennifer Hyman’s success.

The Lesson as an Intern: “Be Likable”

Jennifer Hyman’s career-defining lesson came during her internship at Starwood Hotels and Resorts. While she had an innovative idea for honeymoon registries, it wasn’t an easy sell to the company’s president. Instead of immediately embracing her concept, Hyman had to rally her colleagues to build a website, reservation system, and essentially create a new business. She realized that having a great idea was insufficient; she needed to be likable. This experience taught her that you don’t need authority to be a leader.

“I had to influence hundreds of people around the world in different divisions to help me,” said Jennifer Hyman.

“It was just an exercise for me, and [I realized] you don’t need to have authority to actually be a leader.”

Applying the Lesson to Rent the Runway

Six years later, in 2008, when she co-founded Rent the Runway, Hyman understood that people would only sign up for their clothing rental service if they offered renowned designer brands. This meant reaching out to prominent designers like Diane von Furstenberg (DVF). Despite initial skepticism, Hyman’s likability became a pivotal factor. She listened to DVF’s concerns and showcased how Rent the Runway could help her grow her consumer base by targeting a younger demographic. This approach impressed DVF and led to a successful partnership.

The Science of Likability: Research Backs It Up

Jennifer Hyman’s strategy of being warm, engaging, and actively listening aligns with research findings. A Harvard University study from 2017 revealed that people who listen and ask questions are perceived as more responsive, which is associated with understanding, validation, and care. Additionally, a 2009 study in the Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin found that warm and friendly behavior increases persuasiveness, even in the presence of social pessimism.

The Ongoing Influence of Likability

Jennifer Hyman continues to apply the principle of likability in her leadership approach. She recognizes that influential leadership, especially when positive, is a potent force in building successful ventures. Rent the Runway, co-founded in 2009, has since evolved and expanded its offerings, democratizing designer fashion and empowering people to feel their best every day.

Rent the Runway’s Journey

December 2008 – The Meeting that Changed Everything

In the fashion world, innovation often starts with a daring idea and a bold move. This was certainly the case when Jenn and Jenny decided to take the fashion industry by storm. They embarked on an ambitious journey that would ultimately redefine how women approach dressing up. Their story begins in December 2008, with a meeting that changed everything.

Jenn and Jenny, the co-founders of Rent the Runway, pondered whether the fashion industry would embrace their groundbreaking concept. They took a leap of faith and cold-emailed none other than Diane von Furstenberg, a legendary figure in the fashion world. To their amazement, Diane agreed to a meeting. Why not start at the top?

Walking into Diane’s office, they introduced themselves and their vision. While Diane initially had her reservations, she saw potential in their idea. She offered invaluable business advice and gave them each a good luck charm. Little did they know, this meeting would set them on a path to disrupt the fashion landscape.

April 2009 – Testing the Waters

With newfound inspiration and determination, Jenn, Jenny, and Becky set up a pop-up shop on Harvard’s campus. Here, students could try on and rent dresses on the spot. It was an experiment that would change their lives. Witnessing the excited reactions of their peers, they realized that renting fashion items could make women feel amazing. This revelation solidified Rent the Runway’s mission: to empower women to feel their best every day.

November 2009 – Rent the Runway is Born

Over the course of several months, Jenn, Jenny, along with a dedicated team and a fleet of interns, worked tirelessly to bring the Rent the Runway website to life. They wanted to make this concept accessible to women nationwide. Finally, on November 10th, 2009, the Rent the Runway website was born.

May 2010 – Accessories Now Available to Rent

Rent the Runway’s evolution didn’t stop with dresses. Designer necklaces, earrings, handbags—everything a fashion-forward individual would need to complete their look became available on RTR. It was a game-changer, making luxury accessories accessible to all.

September 2013 – Launched Plus Size Category

In 2013, Rent the Runway took a significant step towards inclusivity and diversity. As part of their mission to democratize designer fashion and boost self-confidence, they introduced a range of plus-size items, catering to sizes 14-22+. This move resonated with a broader audience and marked another milestone in their journey.

October 2014 – First Brick-And-Mortar Store

After successful experiments with ‘shop-in-shops’ at Henri Bendel in New York and The Cosmopolitan hotel in Las Vegas, Rent the Runway took a bold step by opening its first-ever standalone store. Nestled in the iconic Flatiron building in New York City, this store marked a new chapter in their mission to make high-end fashion accessible.

March 2016 – Launch of Monthly Subscriptions

March 2016 witnessed a revolutionary change in how people experienced fashion. Rent the Runway introduced its memberships—a first-of-its-kind clothing rental subscription that transformed the way people dressed. Getting dressed was no longer a mundane task; it became an opportunity to explore, experiment, and redefine one’s style. To this day, Rent the Runway continues to evolve its memberships, offering people more access and flexibility to a vast closet of designer styles.

In conclusion, Rent the Runway’s journey is a testament to the power of innovation and the willingness to challenge the status quo. From a daring meeting with Diane von Furstenberg to revolutionizing the way people approach fashion, Jenn, Jenny, and their team have created a brand that empowers women to look and feel their best every day.

Key Takeaway

Jennifer Hyman’s journey from being an intern with an innovative idea to the CEO of a multimillion-dollar company underscores the significance of likability in achieving success. Her ability to connect with colleagues and influential designers through warmth, engagement, and active listening has been a key driver in building her empire. As she continues to lead Rent the Runway, the lesson that likability is a powerful tool remains at the core of her leadership philosophy.

Exploring the Psychological Aspects of Trading

By: Sadie Smith

When stepping into the energizing world of trading, we often picture charts and numbers, intricate strategies and the potential for profit. However, at the heart of every decision is the pulse of human psychology. Deep within the dashboard where numbers and indicators blink, lies the trader’s mindset, a complex intertwining of emotions, discipline and risk assessment that makes or breaks their success in the financial markets.

The disciplined trader’s persona

Discipline is the cornerstone of a successful trading practice. It’s not just about having a good strategy; it’s adhering to it even when temptations lure you elsewhere. Exceptional traders are marked by their consistent routine and their ability to stick to their plan, even in the throes of market volatility. They also know when to step back, understanding that sometimes the best trade to make is not to trade at all. Considerately, the psychological strength to follow these principles stems from experience, self-awareness and meticulous self-regulation.

To further elaborate, maintaining discipline when making decisions on whether to buy or sell within a professional trading account extends beyond the realm of trading itself. It goes down to the very habits that shape a trader’s daily life. Whether it’s a commitment to continuous learning, reviewing past trades, or maintaining a physical routine that keeps the mind sharp, discipline is a multi-faceted practice. The discipline employed in personal habits often mirrors and supports the disciplined approach required in trade execution and strategy development.

Emotional equilibrium in decision-making

A trader needs to master the tightrope walk of emotional control. A single transaction can be a whirlwind of thrill, anticipation and, at times, disappointment. The trick is to strike a balance between emotions and analytical serenity. It’s the art of emotional management to keep feelings and facts apart. It entails not letting the euphoria of a successful transaction cause you to become overconfident or having the hurt of a loss cause you to lose judgment. It entails cultivating a distant yet sensitive viewpoint, a talent that is refined with time and experience.

Emotional equilibrium necessitates a knowledge of one’s emotional triggers. This entails determining certain market circumstances or inclinations that may cause people to make emotionally charged judgments and developing mechanisms to reduce such vulnerabilities. This might include creating stop-loss orders, automating trading procedures, or keeping a trading notebook to record emotional reactions to deals. By using these steps, traders may aim for optimal emotional balance.

Navigating through market excitement and its snares

The world of the financial market is exciting and alluring. The excitement over rising prices may spread quickly, tempting even the most cautious to jump before they see fit. Although exhilarating, this exhilaration frequently results in rash actions. Prosperous traders avoid getting sucked into the heat of the moment. They remain watchful for herd mentality and keep in mind that the markets aren’t always reliable allies. Part of learning to trade strategically is understanding how to spot and fight market craze, with enthusiasm controlled by methodical planning and analysis.

When excitement builds, the risk of impulsive trades that ignore crucial indications and trend analysis increases. As a countermeasure, shrewd traders maintain a thorough checklist that they follow before making any trades. By acting as an anchor, this checklist makes sure that their choices are in line with their objectives and strategic analysis. It acts as a safeguard, steering traders clear of the snares laid by market exuberance and ensuring that each trade is placed not out of excitement, but out of calculated foresight.

Decisions amidst uncertainty

Every trade is a step into the unknown. While a seasoned trader might build up an intuitive sense of the markets, this intuition must be grounded in thorough analysis and a solid grasp of trading fundamentals. It’s a dance between gut feelings and hard data, with risk management being the guide. The best traders develop a sense of which risks are worth taking and which are not – an understanding that comes from accepting that not all movements can be anticipated and that surprise is part of the game.

Furthermore, decision-making amidst uncertainty is enhanced by diversification strategies that mitigate risk and spread exposure across various assets. Skilled traders pursue a balance between following market trends and mitigating against their unpredictable nature by diversifying their portfolios. By not putting all their eggs in one basket, they stand better armed against market shocks, thus improving their chances to prevail in the face of uncertainty.

Building resilience through setbacks

Ideally, losses are inevitable in trading and bouncing back from them is a testament to a trader’s resilience. Rather than spiraling into frustration, viewing setbacks as learning opportunities sets a trader apart. It’s about building a psychological safety net that buffers against the impact of those losses. This includes emotionally disentangling one’s self-worth from any single trade’s outcome and looking at the bigger picture of one’s overall trading journey. Resilience in trading is not innate; it is carefully constructed through reflection and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Strengthening mental fortitude for enduring success

Behind every trading decision must be a fortress of mental strength. Cultivating a mindset that allows a trader to remain patient and focused during the inevitable ebbs and flows of the market is critical. This is where establishing a routine comes into play, helping traders maintain emotional intelligence and consistency amid the tumult of trading. The success of a trader does not rest solely on the brilliance of strategy but also on the capacity to adapt and learn. Acknowledging that each trade offers a new lesson isn’t just wisdom; it’s an investment in the psychological durability that undergirds long-term success.

Therefore, understanding the psychological aspects of trading is established by deciding to peer beneath the surface of buying and selling. As traders cultivate a robust mental framework, they equip themselves to navigate the complex emotional landscapes of the financial markets. In this delicate balance of mind and money, psychological insight becomes just as valuable as any currency traded. It’s through this internal exploration that traders can find the inner steadiness needed to pursue steady growth, even in the most tumultuous markets.

Navigating the Changing Landscape of Short-Term Bnb Rentals in New York City

New York Bnb Changes

In recent times, securing a vacation rental in the vibrant heart of New York City has become a more challenging endeavor. The city has taken a stern stance on short-term rentals (STRs), enforcing new regulations that are reshaping the hospitality landscape. This article explores the evolving scenario, delving into the key changes, the perspectives of stakeholders, and the potential ramifications on tourism.

New Regulations Take Effect

A Shift in the Vacation Rental Landscape

Travelers seeking to rent apartments for brief stays in New York City now face a narrower pool of options. As of a recent Tuesday, city officials have initiated the enforcement of new rules aimed at curbing short-term rentals. These rules have a profound impact on listings available on platforms like Airbnb, restricting stays to 30 days or longer unless property owners comply with the city’s application process, securing official registration numbers.

Divergent Views on the Rules

Clash of Interests

Airbnb has labeled these regulations as a “de facto ban” on short-term rentals, contending that they will adversely affect hosts and the local tourism economy. In contrast, city officials argue that they are enforcing existing laws to safeguard visitor health and safety, while also combating the proliferation of illegal STRs. The stringent approval requirements, which predate the new registration rules, mandate that hosts must co-reside with guests and limit their number to two.

The City’s Perspective

Upholding Safety and Order

According to official documents, the city’s enforcement of these rules is driven by a desire to address public nuisance concerns. Between 2017 and 2021, the city recorded a staggering 11,934 complaints related to issues like late-night disturbances, excessive noise, and crime, primarily associated with illegal short-term rentals. Moreover, the regulations aim to mitigate risks to visitor safety posed by properties lacking adequate fire safety measures.

Legal Battles and Their Outcomes

Airbnb’s Fight Against the Rules

Airbnb, along with some local hosts, mounted legal challenges to block the enforcement of the registration rules established in Local Law 18. Unfortunately, these suits were dismissed in the previous month, leaving the rules intact and effective.

Impact on Tourism

Potential Consequences on the Hospitality Industry

While some believe that the rules’ impact on tourism is speculative, others express concerns about their potential repercussions. According to Bjorn Hanson, a clinical professor at the Jonathan M. Tisch Center of Hospitality at New York University, Airbnb represents a significant share of the city’s transient housing supply, potentially affecting group travel and family-oriented stays. Reduced inventory could lead to fewer visitors and shorter stays.

Adapting to the Changes

Hosts Seeking Solutions

In response to the new rules, some hosts may explore alternative strategies, possibly listing properties for 30 days at reduced rates, with the expectation that stays won’t extend the full 30-day period. Thousands of listings across various platforms will be impacted as these registration rules take hold. As of the end of the first quarter of 2023, nearly 11,000 listings citywide were in violation of occupancy laws.

Looking Ahead

Preparing for the Future

As of early last week, the city had granted registration approval to only about 260 applications out of more than 3,200. Many of these applications were submitted following the dismissal of the August lawsuit. Of the 3,200 applications, approximately 800 had undergone review, with over half requiring additional information or corrections, according to the city.

Guidance for Airbnb Guests

What to Expect as a Guest in NYC

If you have an upcoming Airbnb booking in New York City, here’s what you should anticipate. Existing reservations with check-ins before December 1 will not be canceled, with Airbnb refunding associated fees post-check-in to comply with STR regulations. However, reservations for stays beginning on or after December 2 will be canceled, and guests will receive refunds. On September 5, any Airbnb listings without registration numbers or exemptions will be converted to long-term stays of 30 days or more, depending on host calendar settings, or deactivated if not feasible.

Imagine a Dating App, but for Job Hunting – How Hirebird is Ruffling Feathers in the Hiring Scene!

By: Caleb Hellinger

What if finding the perfect job was as easy as swiping left or right on a dating app? Sounds like a dream, doesn’t it?

That’s exactly what Hirebird brings to the table.

While traditional job boards and career fairs can feel exhausting and overwhelming, this innovative platform is revolutionizing the way students and employers connect. With its user-friendly interface and unique approach to recruiting, Hirebird is a soon go-to for both job seekers and companies looking to fill positions with top talent.

Hirebird is taking a page from the dating app playbook and incorporating it into the job search process.

According to the founder, Sam Hogan, a graduate of Utah State University in Logan, UT, and current MBA candidate at the University of Albany (New York), said he discovered that a significant number of students (his peers!) and recent graduates are facing difficulties in marketing their skills and establishing connections with job prospects.

The main goals of Hirebird?

  • Accelerate the hiring process to reduce time-to-hire.
  • Set realistic expectations for candidates and guide them in enhancing their marketability.
  • Empower employers with data-driven insights for informed decision-making in their search.

With Hirebird, job seekers no longer have to feel like they are blindly sending out resumes and hoping for a response. Instead, they can browse through potential matches and express interest in companies that align with their values and career goals.

A social mission to help students

As a graduate and a student himself, Hogan wanted to create a platform that helps students’ careers take flight. With the rising competition in the job market, students are facing more challenges than ever before.

The concept is simple: students upload their resumes and create profiles highlighting their skills, experience, and career goals. Employers can then swipe through these profiles, much like they would on a dating app, to find potential candidates that match.

But what sets Hirebird apart is its focus on individuality and cultural fit. Instead of just matching skills and qualifications, the platform also takes into account personality traits and values to ensure a strong match between job seekers and companies.

This unique approach allows students to showcase their authentic selves, beyond just their resume, while also providing employers with a better understanding of who they are hiring.

Making employer’s lives easier too!

Not only does it help struggling students, but it’s also making the recruitment process easier and more efficient for employers.

With a growing pool of talented job seekers, companies can easily sift through a pool of interested applicants and their profiles due to an AI compatibility engine that does the work for them.

This eliminates the tedious task of sifting through countless resumes and cover letters, saving both time and resources.

Companies can create company profiles to showcase their personality, culture, and values, as well as post job listings that align with these ideals.

Gone are the days of a one-size-fits-all job description, Hirebird encourages employers to be transparent about their company culture and what they can offer potential employees.

The rise of technology has greatly impacted the job market, making it easier than ever for job seekers to connect with potential employers. However, this ease of access has also led to a flood of generic job applications and a lack of personalization in the job search process.

Most job boards today still look like a 2010 Craigslist ad.  But with Hirebird’s sleek interface, users can easily navigate through the platform and find exactly what they are looking for.

This not only helps attract top talent but also leads to more long-term and successful hires.

Hirebird isn’t just a hiring platform, it’s a community.

How you can get involved

Hirebird is actively seeking companies and employers to feature on their platform. If your company values transparency, quick time-to-hire, AI functionality, and a sleek interface, consider signing up with one of their free 30-day trials that activates upon full release in March/April 2024.

Job seekers can also create their profile on Hirebird prior to their official launch. By showcasing your personality, skills, and career goals, you can enhance your chances of securing your dream job through Hirebird.

Hirebird’s beta launch is slated to kick off in mid-January, where a select group of participants will be chosen at random to experience the full program. Join the waitlist today to be selected!

Join the Hiring Revolution

Hirebird is not just a typical job board – it’s a platform that aims to revolutionize the way companies and job seekers connect. By utilizing cutting-edge technology and fostering a community-driven approach, Hirebird is changing the game for both employers and job seekers alike.

Gone are the days of scrolling through countless generic job listings or submitting resumes into a black hole. With Hirebird, job seekers can showcase their unique skills and personalities to stand out from the crowd and catch the attention of top companies.

Security Challenges in IoT: Top IoT Security Issues

By: World News

IoT devices are widely used for consumer and business purposes in various industries, including energy, automotive, transportation, agritech, and consumer electronics. They are possible to set up and manage remotely, enabling secure data collection and storage.

Nevertheless, IoT devices are also vulnerable to a range of IoT security challenges regarding firmware as well as hardware. In our article, we researched the importance of IoT security measures and discussed the common IoT security issues and solutions to them.

What Is IoT Security?

Security is the top priority in an IoT system and its management. IoT devices, integrated with sensors, collect and store information about the environmental conditions and device performance on the local server or the cloud. The process of transmitting, collecting, and accessing the data might have a range of vulnerabilities, which we will cover and discuss further in this article.

Why is IoT security important?

IoT devices create a whole network, storing information for further analysis and getting valuable business insights. IoT-connected devices are vulnerable to data security threats and malfunctions, unauthorized system and device access, and others. To prevent security issues, it is pivotal to be aware of them, research them, and find efficient solutions to avoid or fix them on time. To analyze the current security of your IoT devices, you can consult with a tech company that provides IoT consulting services https://lembergsolutions.com/iot-consulting-services.

Let’s take a closer look at the common IoT security problems and find ways to struggle with them effectively.

Top IoT security problems

We covered the most widespread IoT devices security issues and vulnerabilities, as you can only prevent them when you are aware of them.

Insecure hardware

IoT devices are commonly located remotely or in places that you can hardly reach physically. It is pivotal to ensure unauthorized users cannot access the hardware and that it has security and privacy measures in case of attacks.

Firmware update challenges

IoT devices capture information using integrated sensors and firmware, which needs to be regularly updated, just like any software. Firmware should provide OTA or Over-the-Air updates, allowing you to update the functionality remotely. This option can be integrated when developing firmware. In other cases, you will need tech help to redesign the existing firmware architecture.

Firmware exploits

Hackers can access and use it if the firmware doesn’t get regular updates, including data security improvements. It will be harmful to devices as well as can reach the primary IoT device management system and other business software you use for data storage.

New device onboarding & configuration

New devices should also be set up remotely. This process must be properly planned to ensure the newly launched devices work as expected and do not impact the whole IoT network performance.

Remote management

IoT device remote management is possible but requires keeping a set of the necessary industry and security requirements to ensure smooth communication of IoT devices with the IoT management system, including secure data transmission, device provisioning, and monitoring.

Unencrypted data transmissions

IoT devices are often more vulnerable to data leakage due to data collected from IoT device sensors and transferring it to local or cloud storage. The lack of data encryption can lead to potentially sensitive data being stolen on its way to the warehouse.

IoT ransomware

The more scalable the IoT network gets, the more types of hacker attacks it is likely to have. Ransomware entails infecting IoT-connected devices with malware, which can provide unauthorized access to the whole IoT network. This can lead to data extractions from storage, local, or cloud.

How to avoid IoT network security vulnerabilities?

Despite the variety of potential IoT security threats, the majority of them can be prevented or avoided by following the best security practices we will discuss below. Once you launch the IoT network, you should be aware of all potential challenges of securing IoT devices and constantly improve security measures.

Strong password policy

Password policy and two-step authentication are must-haves for business IoT networks with hundreds of connected devices and substantial data volumes stored on a daily basis. Setting up solid and unique passwords for each IoT device and Wi-Fi connection credentials is important. Moreover, all authenticators must be updated at least once a month and have restricted access, which can be granted by special allowance within the security app or other ways.

Device segmentation

Despite the fact that IoT-powered devices create a single network, they can be segmented into different levels and groups. It means that devices from one group cannot communicate and share sensitive data from the other. So, in case of unauthorized access, the probability of losing data decreases, and you can do quick fixes to ensure that other devices operate securely.

Don’t miss firmware updates

Firmware updates for scalable IoT networks must be conducted on time. That’s where OTA update functionality comes in handy, especially for devices that are hard to access physically. This tool can be integrated into existing device firmware or can be built-in during the firmware development process. You can consult on your case specifics with a reliable IoT development partner, like Lemberg Solutions.

Conclusions

One of the most effective ways to prevent the Internet of Things security issues is constant support and security measures upgrades. First, you should set up an asset management process where you control device physical access, onboarding, configuration, conditions, and so on. The next iteration is related to data security actions that include two-step authentication, restricted data access, regular data backups, recovery plans, constant firmware updates, and other solutions offered by your tech partner.

Spearheading Digital Marketing: The Google Era and Beyond – An Insight into the Journey of Frank Frausto

In the corridors of San Jose State University, a vision sparked as Frank Frausto listened to Doug Edwards, head of marketing at the then little-known startup Google, in his digital marketing class. Inspired by the promise of the internet revolution, Frausto knew that his career path was set: he wanted to be a part of Google. Just as the dotcom bubble burst and recruitment opportunities dwindled, Frausto seized a golden chance to join Google through a 12-week temp program when many companies were wary about hiring. His tenacity and skills stood the test in the face of stiff competition – only three out of 25 candidates, including him, landed an offer.

Navigating through the rapidly-growing tech behemoth on the global landscape, Frausto climbed up the ladder, pioneering roles and shaping strategies at Google for 15 years. Inspired by the challenge of uncharted territories, he transitioned from entry-level ad approvals to leading as one of the first Google AdWords Optimization Specialists. In his career, spanning 20 years in digital marketing, he has also worked on optimizing over 4500 marketing campaigns.

When Google realized the need for a robust sales team in 2008, Frausto stepped up armed with his knowledge and experience. Facing formidable challenges of convincing Fortune 1000 companies to allocate budgets from traditional channels like TV, print, and radio to digital channels, Frausto and his team had to construct their own process. His sterling performance and understanding of the ecosystem led him to frame Google’s trusted sales methodology: the Trusted Digital Media Advisor program. By becoming the head sales trainer for Google, Frausto played a pivotal role in the integration of over 200 new Googlers every week.

Fueling the expansion of Google, Frausto contributed significantly to scaling the Google Partners Program. By facilitating quality training, the same as Google’s own sales reps got, thousands of agents from organizations like Autotrader, Yellowpages.com succeeded in catering to millions of smaller businesses across the US. Speaking on behalf of Google at various networking events, conferences, and training sessions, he has enriched the digital marketing landscape.

Working with prominent brands like Ford Motors, Abercrombie & Fitch, Goldman Sachs, Tapout, Sesame Street, Bodybuilding.com, and Toms Shoes across two decades, Frausto has brought substantial transformation. His prowess in outlining the Customer Journey by striking the right message for the right audience on the right platform has marked him as a thought leader in the industry. Paving the path from traditional to digital marketing for hundreds of businesses, he has laid the foundation for their growth in the digital era.

Beyond Google, Frausto has embarked on the journey of digital entrepreneurship by founding his own marketing agency focusing on social and paid ads platforms. As a marketing consultant and fractional-CMO to various companies, he continues to apply his wealth of experience from the tech giant to assist others in their marketing strategies.

Frausto has until now built many bridges, from his first step into Google to leading a cutting-edge digital marketing agency. His valuable advice to others navigating the field is to be unendingly inquisitive and data-driven. As he quotes, “Always Be Testing. Data is King. If you don’t have a target going into a marketing campaign, you’ll never hit it.”

In his future, Frank Frausto sees himself helping exciting and innovative companies build and accelerate their marketing. His dream is to take everything he has learned from his 20-year journey and contribute to scaling the next “Google.”

In today’s complex geopolitical landscape, the lessons drawn from history are invaluable in shaping modern defense policies. As individuals like Zachary Sanns, a former United States Marine and current history scholar, would attest, an understanding of historical events and patterns is crucial for the development of effective and responsive defense strategies.

Learning from the Past: The Foundation of Defense Strategies

The importance of history in shaping defense policies cannot be overstated. Historical analysis offers a treasure trove of insights into successful and failed military strategies, diplomatic maneuvers, and the rise and fall of powers. By studying past conflicts, from the World Wars to the Cold War and regional skirmishes, policymakers and military strategists can glean lessons about strategy, tactics, and the long-term implications of various defense decisions.

For example, the Cold War era offers profound insights into the strategies of deterrence and the delicate balance of power, which remain relevant in today’s international relations and defense policies. Similarly, the World Wars provide lessons on the importance of alliances, intelligence, and the economic underpinnings of military strength.

Contemporary Challenges and Historical Context

In dealing with contemporary challenges, be it terrorism, cyber warfare, or geopolitical rivalries, understanding historical contexts is key. For instance, the rise of non-state actors in modern conflicts has historical parallels that can inform current strategies. The use of guerrilla tactics, seen in conflicts such as the Vietnam War, provides historical context to the asymmetric warfare seen today.

The digital age has introduced new domains of conflict, such as cyber warfare. Here, history can be a guide not just in terms of tactics, but also in understanding the evolution of warfare and how new domains have historically altered defense postures.

Bridging History and Modern Defense

Professionals like Zachary Sanns, with a background in both the military and history, play a vital role in bridging historical knowledge with modern defense strategies. Their ability to analyze historical events through the lens of contemporary challenges is invaluable in policy formulation. For instance, Sanns’ focus on military history provides insights into how past military strategies can be adapted or avoided in current defense planning.

Case Studies: Learning from Historical Conflicts

Numerous historical conflicts offer case studies for modern defense policies. The Cuban Missile Crisis, for instance, is a study in crisis management and diplomacy. The strategies employed to avoid nuclear confrontation provide lessons in restraint, communication, and the importance of intelligence.

The guerilla tactics used in the Vietnam War, on the other hand, offer insights into counterinsurgency and the limits of conventional military power against non-traditional warfare. These lessons are particularly relevant in contemporary conflicts where state armies face insurgent groups.

Applying History to Future Defense Policies

The application of historical knowledge to future defense policies involves a careful analysis of past mistakes and successes. It also requires an understanding that while history offers lessons, the unique context of each era must be considered. Strategies that worked in one context may not be directly applicable in another due to changes in technology, political landscapes, and societal norms.

An example of applying historical lessons to modern contexts can be seen in the approach to international alliances. The two World Wars underscored the value of strong alliances. This lesson continues to shape NATO policies and defense collaborations among nations.

The Importance of Historical Education in Defense

The role of education in history for defense professionals is vital. Encouraging a deep understanding of history among military and defense policy professionals can lead to more nuanced and informed decision-making. Academic programs and military education institutions increasingly emphasize historical studies in their curricula, recognizing the value it brings to strategic planning and policy development.

The Enduring Relevance of History

History plays a pivotal role in shaping modern defense policies. The lessons drawn from past conflicts and strategies inform the way contemporary challenges are approached and resolved. Professionals who, like Zachary Sanns, possess a background in both the military and history, offer invaluable insights into the application of these lessons.

As the world continues to face new and evolving challenges, the study of history remains a crucial tool in the arsenal of defense policy makers. It provides a compass to navigate the uncertain terrain of modern geopolitics and ensures that the mistakes of the past are not repeated, while the successes are carefully analyzed and adapted to the present. The role of history in defense policy is not just about learning from the past; it is about using the past to secure a better, safer future.

The Melodious Journey of Multi-Faceted Musician, Sage Waters

By: Cindy Lake

Life can be nothing short of a beautifully mesmerizing melody when seen through the eyes of the multi-talented Sage Waters. Born in a mixed household, her father hailing from Haiti and her mother having Hungarian Swedish/Welsh roots sprouting from a chicken farm in California, Sage’s upbringing was melodically diverse. This diversity was reflected in the music her home echoed with. From a tender age, her life has been intertwined with a variety of sounds, songs and rhythms leading to a deep engagement with music that has shaped her journey.

As a natural singer, Sage’s musical training began early. At just four years of age she began her foray into piano, and enriched by her mother’s professional choir singing background, Sage and her sister gleefully soaked in the sonic wisdom that came their way during their regular car journeys. Harmony and rhythm were as much a part of their education as any school subject. Their mother introduced them to the nuances of harmonizing, leading to their first ventures into three-part harmonies.

Life wasn’t all songs and smiles, though. At the age of nine, Sage found herself grappling with a deformity in her right knee, necessitating an almost continuous string of orthopedic surgeries that lasted until she hit 22. It was during this time that Sage mined her creativity, pouring her feelings into poetry. Throughout her ordeal, music was a constant companion and healing force.

In her late teens, Sage’s life took on several colors simultaneously. Not only was she a full-time Fine Arts student specializing in sculpting the human body, she also swam competitively, kickstarted her house cleaning business, and created an opportunity to intern at Tarpan Studios with Narada Michael Walden. Initially only regarded as the studio’s ‘rat’, her perseverance and talent eventually led to her first step into the recording booth and a consequent five-year journey as a professional vocalist.

Her wealth of experiences rendered Sage a versatile artist. From her first paid recording gig creating bird sounds for Wynonna Judd’s album in 2000, to working with a roster of industry heavyweights including James Brown, Carlos Santana, Stevie Wonder, and more, Sage’s trajectory has been anything but ordinary. Her years in the industry bestowed upon her valuable lessons about publishing, protecting her work, and the prestige of being a vocal producer.

After leaving Tarpan in 2006, Sage navigated personal and professional transitions. As a new mother and wife, she also joined her first cover band, learning to navigate the intricate dance from the isolation of the studio booth to the limelight on stage. Her determination to cover every aspect of the industry saw her poring over interviews of her favorite artists and emulating performers like Beyonce who merged fitness with vocal training.

In a noteworthy encounter, Sage became a songwriting partner for Brown Mark from Prince and The Revolution. This partnership saw her co-hosting, co-writing, and co-producing a 10-episode podcast, the BrownMarkshow. Sage also played a crucial role in planning the Reunion show at 1st Avenue in Minneapolis and the following United States tour after the passing of Prince.

Presently, Sage continues to serenade Las Vegas as a single mother, singer, songwriter, and producer. She’s a resident performer at Resorts World, delivered background vocals for the Piano Man show on the Las Vegas Strip, and is part of Vox Vegas, an acclaimed acapella group.

The fighter in Sage mirrored the life of Cody Crowley, an undefeated welterweight boxer, whose walk into the MGM Grand Garden Arena was underpinned by her song Fighter. It was a touching tribute to raise awareness of mental health and suicide prevention, in memory of Cody’s father.

As the Head of Artist Development and Director of A&R at Strawberry Hill Records Label, Sage directs her knowledge and experience to budding artists navigating the music industry. She stands as an inspiring figure, striving to heal, enlighten, and better the world through her music. Her Instagram, Spotify and website are portals into her melodious world, inviting one and all to join her on this beautiful journey.
