Historically, our ancestors had to remain vigilant to potential threats, a survival strategy that has resulted in a built-in negativity bias. In our modern world, this translates into attaching undue significance to negative reviews or feedback as a means of protection. For Rythmia, it meant that I found myself drawn to the handful of negative reviews, even when they were overwhelmingly outnumbered by the positive ones. Upon self-reflection, I realized that in order to make rational, thoughtful decisions for myself, I had to think outside of my human instinct in order to seek truth.

As we traverse this journey, it’s vital to remember that reviews, just like life itself, are subjective. The negative experiences of a single person do not invalidate the transformative experiences of the many. As platforms such as Rotten Tomatoes and Yelp have demonstrated, even the most exceptional offerings can invite critique. It’s about transcending our inherent negativity bias and embracing the positive.
