TeamBDN Coaching Head Coach, Dr. Ashley Dwyer, Shares 3 Common Misconceptions Women Have About Their Health

If you’re a woman, it’s hard not to feel stuck regarding your health. Diets work for a while but take a mental and physical toll that makes them hard to sustain. Exercise is fun and rewarding, but no matter how hard you try, your nutrition and metabolism may hold you back from your dream physique. You might have even spoken to a coach before but struggled to reconcile their techniques with your lifestyle.

Ashley Dwyer, the CEO of TeamBDN Coaching, knows the hardship women go through with their health, inside and out. Maybe you’re killing yourself in the gym seven days a week, making yourself unhappy on a restrictive diet, or don’t even know where to start. Dr. Dwyer feels your pain but believes another way is possible!

Did you know that your fitness is 80% based on what you eat? What about how your metabolism, hormones, or conditions, such as PCOS, can limit your attempts to get healthier? If you struggle to stick to a balanced diet, the key may be to focus on what’s right for YOU individually.

This TeamBDN Coaching specialist and her team are changing the way women think about their health. Gone are short-term solutions that cost you money and run out of steam in a few months; Sustainable lifestyle habits are in. Ashley gives the three most common mistaken beliefs that might be standing between you and a happier and healthier life:

1. You can’t change in chaos

It’s a common misconception that women can’t make progress during chaotic times. But in reality, chaos can be the best time to transform your health. “Why start now when life seems crazy? Because life is never going to be perfect,” Ashley explains. “Life is never going to slow down. If anything, it’ll get crazier.”

Chaos can be the perfect opportunity to bring a positive shift in your life because it demands flexibility and openness to new possibilities. In the storm, there lies a chance to establish new routines and habits that can benefit your well-being, such as monitoring your macronutrient intake.

By setting new goals and habits during times of upheaval, you can build resilience and strength that will serve you well in the future. So if you’re going through a job change, house move, or even a holiday, don’t be afraid to embrace the uncertainty. As Ashley puts it: “It’s the best time to inflict a new habit change in your life because if you can nail it in chaos, you can keep it going forever.”

2. Desperate times call for desperate measures

The TeamBDN Head Coach makes an excellent point about extreme solutions being counterproductive to improving your health. Many women are used to taking drastic measures to achieve their goals, but this can be overwhelming and unsustainable. As Dwyer puts it: “The extremes are holding you back because you have the wrong idea of what you need to do.”

The key to making lasting changes to your health is to start small and take manageable steps. You don’t need to hit the gym every day or cut out all carbs and alcohol at once. In fact, trying to do too much too soon is a recipe for burnout and failure. Instead, make small, incremental changes you can sustain over time.

By taking manageable steps, you can create an effective plan for improving your health and well-being. And don’t rule out coaching, either. As Dwyer emphasizes: “All I want is to keep teaching women that we don’t have to do these horrible, extreme things. There are other answers.”

3. The same plan works for everyone

The biggest misconception about health and fitness is that the same approach will be effective for all women. Every woman’s body is different; results for one woman may not work for another.

“Most coaches will work with women over 30 with imperfect diets, giving them a nutrition plan, a macro plan, and some workouts,” Ashley said. “But if you don’t understand how metabolism, hormones, and stress are linked, you’re only going to get so far.”

TeamBDN Coaching takes an “inside-out” approach, as the head coach explained, “We work on your metabolism and getting everything stable. First, we look over blood work. Then, we’ll review your supplementation and recommend some if needed, provided you speak to your doctor first.”

The team also has multiple certifications in metabolism science, gut health, pre and postnatal qualifications, and more. They take an evidence-based approach to their coaching, ensuring that their recommendations are scientific and research-based. Many women think they suffer from a slow metabolism but may have simply just adapted to poor practices. Coaching that includes a tailored plan can bring it back up to speed.

When making an educated decision as to what kind of coaching might help you, choose one with knowledge and credentials. But equally, ensure they care about you, not just your wallet. For example, TeamBDN Coaching has a Mental Health Coach who conducts monthly sessions open to all clients. Because if your happiness and healthiness don’t go hand-in-hand, it might be time for a shift.

Overall, women face unique challenges when it comes to improving their health, but with the right approach, lasting change is possible. Dr. Ashley Dwyer, the CEO of TeamBDN Coaching, and her team are challenging common misconceptions and promoting sustainable lifestyle habits that are tailored to each individual’s needs. Rather than resorting to extreme measures, the key is to start small and make manageable changes that can be sustained over time. By focusing on the individual and taking an “inside-out” approach, women can achieve their health goals and live happier, healthier lives.

How Life Coach Jessica Armstrong Found Success in Her True Purpose

Jessica Armstrong stands out in a world of people who are happy to sell their services but lack lived experience of what they are offering. Her story—from working in hospitality to becoming a successful life coach with two businesses—is one her ideal client can inspire and relate to. Where once her experiences forced her into a downward spiral, they now influence groundbreaking techniques with real-world effects.

But before there was Jessica Armstrong Co., a flourishing life coaching business, there was the person who started it all. Like those of the people she works with, her story is unique. Exploring it is central to discovering how Jessica took a deep dive into herself, found her purpose, and got to where she is today.

Let go or set free?

Jessica Armstrong aspires to a world where people can accept their flaws without fear of judgement. To that end, she would be the first to admit that alcohol was a feature of her early years, distracting her from the unfulfillment she felt. She had already reached a self-proclaimed ‘rock bottom’ when she took a restaurant management job, which only made her onward journey more fascinating.

“I was feeling lost, hopeless, and depressed,” Jessica confessed. “I ended up being overworked in a restaurant management position. But before starting, I was already deep into using alcohol to cope.”

Fortunately, even a young Jessica had a goal: to save for a sea kayaking trip to Alaska. When she finally had the money, it turned out to be the leap she needed to take. Not long after returning and discovering her true self without distraction, the restaurant let her go. In retrospect, it set her free, as the door to the next stage of her life opened before her eyes.

Entrepreneurship from the embers

It wasn’t an overnight transition. Before Jessica could become the coach she is today, she had to learn a few more things about herself and her aspirations.

While a career in real estate led to her first step as an entrepreneur, it was the things she learned about herself that would prove the most valuable. She was repeatedly told ‘No’ by higher-ups when she tried to progress, which led to the realisation that if she wanted success, she’d have to make it for herself.

With a little encouragement from her partner Travis, she started a real estate transaction coordination business called ‘TCCREATED.’ The affirmation of self-made success and healthy working relationships gave Jessica a newfound confidence in her abilities. But the journey she had been on inside revealed her true purpose; not real estate, but life coaching.

A future born from the past

The ‘wellpreneur’ founded Jessica Armstrong Co. with a simple mission: to help others see the same transformation in their lives that she did. One could endlessly discuss the outcomes different clients achieve: finding their true desires, healing traumas, or accepting their imperfections. But two simple things were instrumental in Jessica’s journey to her best self.

“Negative self-talk, for example, telling yourself that you aren’t good enough, is one of the main connectors between my clients and me,” Jessica said. “One of the hardest things I went through was being stuck in a negative narrative and not knowing how to get out. Finally being awakened to it can change your outlook on success in life and business.”

Secondly, Jessica believes helping her clients to create space in their minds is a gateway to unlocking their success. Having filled that gap with alcohol for many years, she understands how having no room to think creatively can stunt progress. “I’ve been able to be a good leader, partner, friend, and mentor because of the space I’ve created for myself,” she said.

From a seemingly inescapable place of depression and substance abuse, Jessica Armstrong now feels joyful each day. In contrast to other life coaches, who claim overnight epiphanies led them to prosperity, her journey was gradual, sustainable, and real. Finding similar realities in her clients’ stories and showing them the way forward will be the hallmark of her coaching business long into the future.

Personal Trainer Dr. Onyedikachi Ibeji Gives 3 Steps You Should Be Following for Optimal Occupational Fitness

Dr. Onyedikachi Ibeji, the owner of Ony-X Fitness Therapy, has experience across the world of fitness and beyond. But if there’s one word that best describes his ventures, it’s passion. He’s worked with countless people since entering personal training in 2001, and his enthusiasm and care have been invaluable in their fitness journeys. If he hung up his gym wear now, he’d be leaving a remarkable legacy on health and wellness in the US.

So he’s probably one of the best people to give advice on a topic everyone comes across at some point in their lives: occupational fitness. The field is his wheelhouse; he even obtained a doctorate in Occupational Therapy in 2023. In short, it’s all about using innovative methods to achieve your full potential inside and outside the gym.

With inspiration from onyx stones, which he believes can reduce your stress levels, enhance your memory, and bring balance to your mind, here are Dr. Ibeji’s three stages of occupational fitness:

1. Gain fitness

When targeting occupational health, the key is to always focus on fitness. Set a clear goal early to prevent you from getting distracted. Build your fitness levels to set yourself up for sustainable health and reduce the risk of diseases such as diabetes. Over the years, Onyedikachi has developed a few fun activities to keep his clients on track with their fitness goals.

“Ony-X created an Adventure Bootcamp Series, the first of which was a D-Day-style obstacle course called ‘Beach War,’” he shared. “We also created the ‘ESCAPE’ event: a haunted house/escape room/scavenger hunt-style fitness boot camp attended by over 200 participants.”

The owner’s other pursuits, like personal training, community programs, and health fairs, also fall under the occupational therapy banner, helping people of all backgrounds to fulfill their potential. Gaining fitness is the primary and most important aspect of the program.

2. Sustain optimal health

A different doctor from Compton, CA, once said: “Remember, anybody can get it—the hard part is keeping it.” While he may not have referred to occupational fitness specifically, it rings true here. You’ve put in the hard work. Now it’s time to use your energy to maintain your gains outside the gym.

If you want to sustain your optimal fitness level, you need to think about it in every aspect of your life. We’re talking about managing your medications, checking your blood sugar, and understanding the signs and symptoms of illness and underperformance. But not like you ordinarily would—your aim here is fitness, and you’ll get the most out of your occupational therapy if you keep your mind oriented around it.

3. Regain your peak

In an ideal world, you’ll have sustained occupational fitness so successfully that you’ll never have to regain it. But occasionally, unforeseen things do happen. Onyedikachi has a wealth of experience helping veteran communities re-familiarize themselves with wellness, aided by his own time served in the military during the Iraq War.

For people who have endured physical or mental traumatic events, it’s best to start small. The personal trainer suggests regaining occupational fitness, beginning with household tasks, such as washing the dishes or making your bed. Then, work your way back up to where you left off.

The Ony-X owner promotes a fitness and wellness center encompassing veteran surf therapy, prosthetic limb therapy, and a future hand therapy service. His first big move on the global stage was inventing ‘Parkinson’s Boxing,’ a form of exercise for sufferers of the disease.

While the future looks bright for Dr. Onyedikachi Ibeji’s personal training business, his corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs continue to steal the spotlight. He donates to philanthropic non-profit organizations, such as the 482nd EOD Family Foundation for veterans, and regularly works with community initiatives. But even if he gave all that up today, there is innumerable value in his efforts to gamify fitness and make it accessible to everybody.

When a Passion Becomes a Profession: The Journey of Ripley Rader

Image commercially licensed from Unsplash

It’s rare to do what you love for a living, but to get to do it multiple times in a lifetime is incredible. For Ripley Rader, when a fun pastime of sewing and creating clothes got thrust into the spotlight her career in musical theater was put on pause. This Los Angeles-based fashion designer welcomed this new creative venture with open arms and still finds time for weekly dance classes – when she’s not busy taking the fashion world by storm.

Ripley Rader may have fallen into this career path unexpectedly, but it turned out to be her calling all along. Whether it’s her beloved wide-legged pants or fabulous jumpsuits, Rader found her true passion through arming women in clothes that make them feel as powerful as they are. With a greater mission to empower and uplift women, the Ripley Rader brand taps into a movement bigger than just fashion.

Beginnings

Fashion has been in Rader’s life since her grandmother taught her to sew at age 12. Her mother, an interior designer, had discarded upholstery which Ripley repurposed to design clothes for herself. Ripley’s mother encouraged her creations and helped mold her creative path— but fashion wasn’t actually this young West Virginian’s first calling.

“I danced four hours a day, five days a week minimum, and I went to voice lessons at least once a week. That was my life from 10 yrs old on..” Rader revealed “so my sewing/design was simply fun. It was never something I wanted to monetize.”

Naturally a career in musical theater followed, but she never stopped making clothes. She would frequently try her hand backstage in the costume department, designing pieces for the fun of it. Ripley never imagined these designs would become a calling card for a whole new career path, but the universe had other plans.

Discovering a Designer

If you move to Los Angeles, you’ll find out what you really want sooner or later. Fortunately for Rader, a buyer from Fred Segal made that discovery for her. The singer/dancer had relocated to the city in 2006 following a tour of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”. What happened next changed the trajectory of Rader’s life forever.

“I was at a concert wearing a jumpsuit I’d made, and that’s where my origin story begins,” the creative director recalls. “I met this incredible boutique owner at Fred Segal who said to me if I could make the jumpsuit in America and sell it for under $200, we would have a deal.”

Press opportunities suddenly appeared, and the founder realized she had to invest all her energy into turning this fun hobby into a full-blown fashion brand.

An Army of Women Not Afraid to Stand Out

While a unique perspective and unwavering confidence is certainly necessary to be a great designer, it’s the drive for a greater purpose that really sets Ripley Rader apart. In the process of building her brand, Ripley discovered how aligned it was with her bigger purpose– uplifting women. Through the building of her brand, Rader realized it was really the community of women that were being formed through her clothes that brought her the most joy.

“I know we’re conditioned as women to compete with each other,” she said. “In practice, I have found the complete opposite to be true. If I didn’t have all the women who stuck their necks out for me from the beginning, I would have no company. I don’t buy that women don’t support other women—women will go to war to support other women.”

Rader’s designs are built for all women: the career woman, the mother, and women at all stages of their lives. She creates clothes with the realities of a woman’s lifestyle in mind and her clothes reflect that. A top priority for Rader is that women not only look fabulous in their clothes but feel confident and comfortable and her signature pieces do just that.

But Rader’s brand isn’t just for women; it’s also run by women. Dynamic women are the backbone of Ripley’s Los Angeles-based company, and she is committed to putting her money where her mouth is when it comes to hiring and working with women across the board. Her other ventures, which include a podcast for teenage girls and a leadership camp for young women run parallel to the brand in reaching out to the next generation of women. Because, who knows, a young woman learning to sew from her grandmother could have the very same aspirations as Ripley Rader.

Riding the Wave of Growth: Nigeria’s Logistics Industry Offers New Opportunities for Entrepreneurs and Investors

The logistics sector in Nigeria is currently experiencing unprecedented growth, with the value of the industry estimated to be worth 250 billion Naira ($696 million) in 2018, a significant increase from the previous year. This represents a great opportunity for individuals, investors, and the government alike to tap into the potential of this sector.

The logistics industry is a thriving, fast-paced field that offers individuals the chance to cultivate their skills and knowledge. Michael Makinde, the logistics and distribution manager for Frigoglass, has set a standard of excellence and superior service delivery, propelling the Nigerian logistics sector towards a bright future of growth and development. Those who share a passion for logistics can seize the opportunity to pursue careers in this field, taking advantage of the increasing demand for supply chain professionals and setting themselves on a path toward personal growth and career advancement.

Investors eyeing Nigeria’s logistics landscape have reason to be optimistic. The industry’s burgeoning growth prospects offer a gateway for investment in logistics service providers or infrastructure developers. Given the industry’s potential for substantial returns, strategic investment in this sector could prove highly lucrative for savvy investors.

Unleashing the latent potential of Nigeria’s logistics industry can also yield significant dividends for the government. Given its immense capacity to bolster government earnings, enhance the nation’s GDP, generate employment, and narrow the wealth gap, particularly within the informal economy, the government could employ a range of policies and tactics to nurture the sector’s growth. By committing resources to the expansion of logistics infrastructure, formulating policies that incentivize the development of logistics firms, and providing inducements for enterprising individuals and investors to capitalize on the sector’s potential, the government could reap substantial benefits.

The boundless potential of Nigeria’s logistics sector presents an ocean of possibilities, offering immense benefits to not just individuals, investors, and the government but the entire nation. By employing effective policies, investment plans, and domain knowledge, Nigeria’s logistics sector could serve as a major driving force for the country’s economic progress and expansion. Drawing from his stint as the logistics and distribution manager at Frigoglass, Michael Makinde’s expertise underscores the need for a fresh perspective to reconfigure and realign the logistics industry toward unprecedented prosperity.
