The Young Owner and CEO of Autism Worldwide, Alicia Lasaga, has Built a Blossoming Business that Gives Families Hope for the Future of Their Autistic Children

Alicia Lasaga’s Autism Worldwide learning centers are a place where magic truly happens. The centers are known for creating transformative change in their students and the community. They have helped affected young people come out of their shells and express themselves in ways the world hadn’t seen before and worked to make Autism Awareness a topic of public conversation, especially among employers in the area.

To accomplish this, Alicia and her caring staff take the time to get to know their students. They then work together to formulate individualized plans that bestow a new understanding of the world on the children and adolescents enrolled.

Alicia shared that “a lot of times, we will explain to kids, we’re here for you, we’re here to help you communicate to the world how the world should talk to you — because we have to create awareness in the world to make the world change — because not everyone is the same. And the kids calm down, and they are like, okay, you’re not trying to change me; you’re just trying to help everyone understand me better by helping me communicate and advocate for myself in the world.” The teachings at Autism Worldwide allow people affected by Autism to take action and bridge the communication gap between themselves and the rest of society.

Autism Worldwide’s Methods

The learning centers use an updated version of applied behavior analysis (ABA). Rather than utilizing spaces devoid of real-world objects and activities to control the environment — the learning center compassionately helps students feel comfortable in surroundings most children are exposed to on a daily basis. For example, learning centers are equipped with traditional learning spaces, play spaces (indoors and out), art rooms, dance studios and other activity rooms — where children learn new ways to rely less on socially unacceptable and harmful behaviors.

The strategies they use allow the team to fully support students on a student-by-student basis as they become involved in forming relationships with the staff and peers, all while learning to participate in physical activities. This combination builds the students’ sense of purpose, trust and confidence in themselves and the world. And the results have been phenomenal.

Autism Worldwide Results

Alicia commented that she’s had children of all ages come to her centers unable to communicate verbally. However, after a short time with the empathetic staff at Autism Worldwide, parents reported to Alicia that their son or daughter said, “I love you” for the first time ever.

She has also helped students open up to the point of being able to get up on stage, have fun with their peers and perform for parents. Other program participants are on their way to a high school diploma after dropping out in their formative years while older students are entering society, getting jobs and going out with friends.

The learning centers are responsible for facilitating many monumental moments in families’ lives. It all comes down to the patient, thoughtful and individualized teaching methods that give students the self-assurance they need to be themselves.

Working at Autism Worldwide

In addition to creating a warm and loving environment for the kids, Alicia has made it a point to do the same for her staff. She sees that the kids will be best served if everyone is able to be open and collaborate. So she works to keep a positive and communicative culture where everyone has fun and can emotionally relax.

As a special treat, the entire Autism Worldwide team takes a long company retreat weekend at a local hotel. They spend time getting to know each other across locations and bonding through fun and inclusive activities. And for some added delight, she is considering making it a cruise over the coming years.

Overall, Alicia Lasaga has built an extraordinary place to work and attend, and at such a young age. There is no end to what the amazing staff and kids are capable of achieving. Autism Worldwide is located in Orlando, Gainesville and plans to open a third location in Ocala, Fl, in August. Alicia also offers overseas consulting services and plans to expand out of the state and into Georgia and the Carolinas.

Grand Master Kumiko Kanayama: Leading Shiatsu “Magic” in NYC

Kumiko Kanayama, founder of the Five Lights Center of Shiatsu, first learned Shiatsu in her grandmother’s living room in Japan. Before World War II, her grandmother had learned simple hands-on treatment techniques to take care of her big family, then later passed that knowledge on to Kanayama.

When her uncle, Wataru Ohashi came to the states, he started his Shiatsu Dojo in 1974 after furthering his study of Shiatsu at Namikoshi Shiatsu School in Tokyo, inviting leading teachers from Japan along with his niece, Kanayama. Under his guidance, Kanayama deepened her Eastern medicine studies and has committed herself to learning even more about and sharing her knowledge of this healing modality ever since.

Intuitive Shiatsu, however, is something wholly unique unto Kumiko Kanayama and the Five Lights Center of Shiatsu. Based on her more than 30 years of experience and Japanese culture, and assembling techniques from other master Japanese Shiatsu teachers, Intuitive Shiatsu highlights the intentionality of both the giver and receiver. A name coined by a longtime client, Intuitive Shiatsu invokes the personal relationship and harmony between those in practice with each other, leading to more freedom in both the joints, overall body composition, and spiritual energy.

Kanayama breaks down the terminology, explaining: “The Japanese translation of Intuitive Shiatsu is Cho Kan Chi Shiatsu. Cho means direct-straight, Kan means sensing, Chi means wisdom.” She elaborates, “I hope people open their hearts, give attention to the meridian energy channels and the tsubo & acupressure points, to sense low and high energy levels in order to cultivate and discover their own inner wisdom to help others.” Citing her small stature and lithe physique, she’s used those characteristics to develop inner strength – or “hara” – to adapt her practice and modulate her energetic life force to her clients whether they be elderly, infants, pregnant, or ailing. Never one to get hung up on a setback, her own practice of Intuitive Shiatsu has transformed these traits into sources of inspiration and power.

A New Yorker herself, Kanayama maintains that as a form of energetic medicine, Shiatsu can refresh, recharge, rebalance, and restore one’s energy in a matter of five minutes. Once familiar with the practice, New Yorkers who may think of themselves as not having the time to stop and practice mindfulness will find their overall outlook, disposition, and stress levels transformed with Intuitive Shiatsu.

As a matter of philosophy, using pain to uncover a mystery rather than solve a problem and discover what feels right within the body is a foundational principle of Intuitive Shiatsu. Kanayama believes in the core essence of shiatsu by living and breathing with the Five Elements Theory and working within the laws of nature to help others, especially her clients. She cites them as a main source of inspiration to continue being of service to the community, not only locally to her Upper West Side Studio, but to the world at large – The Five Lights Center offers educational programs, live stream events, wellness programs and the virtual Eastern Healing Arts Center.

Kanayama is furthermore galvanized by her mother’s spirit inspiring her to follow her mission in creating a peaceful world because of her experience in Hiroshima during war time. Kanayama has witnessed firsthand the great impact Shiatsu has on the mind, body, and spirit and looks forward to continuing those teachings via The Five Lights Center. The center itself is dedicated to training and supporting the worldwide shiatsu community through its educational programs, social media connectivity, and the Global Shiatsu Virtual Gatherings as it continues to grow into an international educational and healing center for all.

Real Estate Icon Adnan Dedic on Accomplishing Success and Inspiring Others

While success is a universal desire shared by most, each individual has a distinct journey and motivation that will bring them closer to achieving this goal. For Adnan Dedic, his experiences with extreme adversity were what molded him to pursue excellence and ultimately allowed him to become a distinguished real estate professional.

The young man is currently affiliated with the world-renowned real estate company Compass. Despite only being with the organization for nearly six years, he has doubled his transactions, making over $50 million in sales in 2021. As a result, he has climbed his way to the top, earning the highly coveted distinction of being ranked in the top 1% among licensed real estate agents in the country.

The praiseworthy work ethic he learned from his mother and father helped him attain such a monumental accomplishment. Hailing from Bosnia, his family was severely affected by the Yugoslav wars and had to fight hard in order to survive. Finally, after years of struggle, they managed to flee to Germany and eventually sought refuge in the United States.

He may have only been a child then. Still, Adnan Dedic vividly recalls his parents’ sacrifices and shared, “I remember my parents only getting three hours of sleep a night because of how many different jobs they were working just to keep our family afloat. Their struggles showed me the difference between living and surviving, and I promised myself that I would create a future that would be better for all of us one day.”

Fueled by this, the go-getter always strived for greatness. However, pursuing a career in the real estate industry was not originally part of his plan. Initially, he attended Florida Gulf Coast University to achieve his bachelor’s degree in Pre-Medical Health. But, a fateful encounter set him off on a new tangent which changed the course of his life for the better.

At the university, he delivered a stellar presentation at the Sarasota Buzzprize Expo Competition, which landed him the title of “Young Entrepreneur of the Year.” His innate skills caught the attention of an entrepreneur who became his mentor. From there, he shifted his focus to entrepreneurship and real estate.

Because of his dedication and perseverance, the real estate expert has solidified his reputation as the top dog in the industry. As a testament to his authority, he possesses the title of “5 Star Best” real estate agent on the esteemed marketplace, Zillow. On top of that, he was recognized as part of the top 1% real estate agents in the country by RealTrends. His peers and clients consistently praise his fantastic work ethic, efficiency, and passion for the craft.

There is no doubt that Adnan Dedic is one of today’s most accomplished young entrepreneurs. As he continues to scale his success, the visionary also hopes to use his story to inspire others who may be going through challenges and difficulties. As such, he is already working on establishing DedicationX, his very own enterprise that is a professional real estate service platform as well as an avenue where he can grow his mentorship, philanthropy and motivational speaking efforts.
