Brettina Introduces an Eclectic Mix of Classical Jazz and Caribbean Tones

Brettina Lorena Robinson, famously known as Brettina, is a musical artist interweaving the beats and sound of a nation into an upbeat euphoric melody. Through music whose influences are in traditional jazz and laid-back Caribbean tones, Brettina expresses her love and pride for her Bahamian culture.

Hailing from the capital city of Nassau, Commonwealth of The Bahamas, Brettina is a budding artist challenging the status quo of societal standards of equating beauty with talents and arts. As a child, young Brettina recognized that beauty is more than the color of the skin. She understood that every individual is unique and strives to remind and encourage others through her music to look beyond their skin hue and create a path to success with heads raised high.

The four-song EP titled ‘New Day’ contains the uplifting single titled ‘Bop Baiye’, the catchy viral single ‘Simple Pleasures’, the sultry song ‘Low,’ and the declaration song, ‘New Day,’ produced in collaboration with Grammy-nominated multi-platinum producer G’harah Degeddingseze and co-writer/vocal Producer Patricia Battani. World-renowned recording Engineer Al Schmitt was also part of the project. The four-song EP is fast becoming an anthem among her fans, enjoyed by the young and old.

An artist set to dominate the industry, Brettina’s passion for music is infused in her body of work. Her sound, a fresh breath of island air as she offers her multi-generational audience a unique listening experience. She trends the path set by her famous uncles, the multi-talented band “The T-Connection.” Brettina hopes to uphold the baton of excellence set by her uncles, who were the first Bahamian funk, RnB, Soul Group to gain International mainstream appeal and were signed under an internationally recognized record label – Capitol Records.

Kick 5000: A Story of Pain and Passion

Every other day, new and upcoming artists find their way to the entertainment industry to pursue their dream, but very few manage to set a distinct trend with original sound and style. Jamaal Michael Jackson, best known as Kick 5000, is part of the 1 percent that has captured the attention of music lovers everywhere with his upbeat sound and lyrics.

Kick 5000 is a generational musician specializing in hip-hop, R&B, Reggae. As a budding artist, Kick 5000 made music his passion, spending countless hours listening to music catalogs to find his style. The pivotal moment came when an A&R listened to his raw sound and advised that the lyrics be more refined. Understanding that his music is only as good as the lyrics,  Kick 5000 got to work and soon honed his musical skill and melodies to near perfection. 

Now a multigenerational artist and a lyrical genius riding the wave to fame, Kick 5000 had a difficult childhood colored by the passing of his family members. When he was 3 years old, his father died, leaving his mother to fend for the children. The situation soon made his older brother turn to a life of crime, and by the time Kick 5000 was thirteen, his brother was convicted for a crime and jailed for life. There seemed to be no fancy rainbow at the end of the dark clouds as the artist lost his mother when he was fifteen.

With no immediate family to take custody of Kick 5000 and his other siblings, they went into state custody. However, the first silver lining came when the teenager was seventeen. At the time, he made fun of a family friend being in a rap group and was challenged to a rap battle. The battle gave credence to his ability as a lyrical genius, and he soon began writing rap verses in his composition book.

To cultivate the love of rap with like minds, Kick 5000 soon started a rap group called “The Goons/Goonsville” with four of his childhood friends. The rap/hip-hop group based out of Carol City, Florida, helped the youngsters polish their talents as they challenged each other to rap the best bars and strive for greatness in every way. At this time, Kick 5000 coined his alias, which was given to him by older Gs on the block.

Making music that reflects his life’s story, Kick 5000 music is spawned from pain and passion. He makes music for people who feel thwarted by life and need a reason to hope again and for listeners who enjoy lyricism, melodies, beats, and the use of metaphors. The multi-faceted artist also draws, paints, and designs custom-made pieces in his leisure, channeling his art into many different mediums.
