Manhunt — A manhunt is an intense search and pursuit of an individual, typically a suspect in a crime, by law enforcement authorities.
It is a high-stakes operation that often captures the public’s attention due to the potential danger posed by the individual being sought.
Media companies play a crucial role in reporting on the developments of a manhunt, providing updates to the public on the search’s progress and any related information, such as the suspect’s background and potential motives.
Through live updates, on-scene reporting, and interviews with law enforcement officials and witnesses, media companies provide in-depth and comprehensive coverage of a manhunt.
The updates ensure that the public stays informed and aware of any potential risks to their safety.
The media’s coverage of a manhunt is often a critical component in the eventual capture of the suspect.
The past decade
The frequency of manhunts in the past decade can vary greatly depending on the region and the circumstances leading up to the search.
In some areas, manhunts occur relatively frequently, often as a response to violent crimes or high-profile suspects.
In other regions, they may be less common.
The past decade has seen several high-profile manhunts, such as the search for the Boston Marathon bombers in 2013 and the manhunt for the suspect in the Parkland, Florida, school shooting in 2018.
However, manhunts are not an everyday occurrence, and the number of searches varies widely based on various factors, including crime rates and law enforcement strategies.
The recent Mississippi runaways
According to authorities, a manhunt is underway after four inmates escaped from a jail near the Mississippi capital.
The escape was reported over the weekend.
Staff at the Raymond Detention Center, around 15 miles west of downtown Jackson, found that the four men were missing following a routine headcount around 12:30 am Sunday.
Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones shared news of the manhunt over a news conference on Monday.
Following the jail’s lockdown, staff found two breaches within the facility.
The sheriff said one of the breaches was inside a cell while the other was on the roof.
“The doors locked in this particular pod, the pod is secure,” said Jones.
“The breach that they created was located in a cell.”
Authorities believe the four inmates climbed to the roof around 8:30 pm on Saturday, camping there and leaving the property at different times.
“We don’t believe they all escaped at the same time, but rather at different times,” the sheriff added.

The inmates
According to the authorities, these are the escapees:
- Dylan Arrington, 22
- Casey Grayson, 24
- Corey Harrison, 22
- Jerry Raynes, 51
Jackson Police Chief James E. Davis released a statement saying Dylan Arrington is suspected of shooting and killing a man in Jackson on Monday.
He reportedly stole the victim’s red Dodge Ram 1500 truck and drove away.
Davis said the police officers called to the scene found the victim lying unresponsive on the roadway on Monday evening.
The police chief shared that investigators believed the victim pulled over on the side of the road to help Arrington.
The inmate appeared to have crashed a motorcycle he had stolen earlier.
Davis shared that investigators believed Arrington shot the victim several times before stealing the truck based on the information they gathered.
The truck was last seen moving south on Interstate 55 in the nearby city of Terry, Mississippi.
“This suspect is considered to be armed and dangerous,” Davis said.
Going separate ways
The sheriff also noted that at least one of the other escaped inmates is believed to have escaped in a vehicle on their way to Texas.
Jones said a witness reported seeing a Hinds County Public Works vehicle crashing into a gate around 9:30 pm on Saturday.
The vehicle was later recovered more than 400 miles away in Spring Valley Village, Texas, but it was abandoned.
Early Sunday morning, another truck was stolen near the detention center.
Jones said a witness described two unidentified men in the truck.
While investigators have yet to confirm it, they believe the theft is linked to the runaway inmates.
The stolen red Chevy Silverado was last seen on Monday morning, with reports saying it was making its way into Mississippi’s Rankin County, east of Jackson.
As of Tuesday, none of the four escapees had been captured, and the manhunt continues.
“We are actively and aggressively looking for these individuals, and we hope to have them back in custody soon,” said Jones.
The sheriff’s office is coding an administrative and criminal investigation into the escape.
According to Jones, once they are captured, the inmates will face additional charges of escape and possibly auto theft on top of their other charges.
