Collegiate Athlete Kevin Major Is an Inspiration in Sports and Entrepreneurship

It is not often that a child actually reaches their dreams in life—nowadays, it can seem as if every kid’s wildest dreams are just that: dreams. However, there are living examples that prove the power of setting goals and committing daily actions to work towards them. Take Kevin Major, a basketball player and entrepreneur killing the game for Penn State.

Born on April 15, 1997, in the fiery heart of New York City, the Bronx, Major was brought up in a culture of playing basketball. From neighborhood games to youth leagues, he knew that he wanted to make a living out of his passion for the sport. At a young age, inherited his admirable work ethic from his mother, who, as a single parent, did not give up and continued to work to support her son’s dreams. Major cites his mother as his drive to never stop pushing forward, no matter the adversity that may come his way. As well, Major was trained by Kenneth Gucc Robinson, who he cites as another of his greatest supporters to earn his scholarship and to attend his 40,000-dollar prep-school in Wisconsin. With hard work, dedication, and his undeniable charisma, Major was deemed fit to receive a generous scholarship to Penn State University to play for the Nittany Lions as a guard.

Standing at an intimidating 6’3 and 185lbs of lean muscle, Major is certainly a force to be reckoned with on the court. His training consists of an elite program held by legendary coach Leshawn Hammett, and it has certainly paid off. He has been named PSUAC conference player of the week twice, USCAA National Player of the Week on January 25, 2022, and attended the 2021-2022 PSUAC Men’s Basketball All-Conference Awards as part of the East 1st Team for beating Wilkes University. Major’s team is top 2 in the country, as he averages 20 points per game (his 1000th point was scored Feb. 1, 2022) and actually leads the country in assists. Penn State’s basketball team has never been so successful, as Major’s year has brought the Nittany Lions their best regular-season record in school history at 22-5 overall.

When Kevin Major isn’t breaking records on the court, he is putting his major in Business to good use through his very own clothing brand called DangerActivated. The brand sells various clothing items, like stylish shirts. To balance school, business, and national-level basketball competitions is nothing short of amazing. Too often are students and young adults scared or intimidated by the idea of diversifying their actions and pursuing their dreams simultaneously. The fear of being overwhelmed and letting everyone down is daunting, but role models like Kevin Major may be just what the next generations need for that confidence boost to do what they love, confidently.
