NFL teams all share a common goal during every off-season period. That goal is to acquire the best players to occupy vacant positions in their team, strengthen a certain weak position and also laying off underperforming players in their respective teams.
Around March every year with the help of a free agency, NFL teams are presented with a golden opportunity to easily sign skillful and experienced players to strengthen weak areas in the team at a high price. Team Bosses not willing to buy players on the market owing to their high cost of purchase can as well select from a selection of over 250 first-timers on draft day. Undrafted talents should also be considered as some of the finest players in the history of NFL were at some point in this category.
You would agree with us that in every team there will always be at least one player starting who definitely won’t be as effective as he was in a previous season. It’s just something that’s bound to happen. When such occurs, the club with the declining player shouldn’t hesitate to sell or trade him
Enough said, here are 10 players who don’t deserve starting positions in their respective teams.
Arizona Cardinals: OG Mike Lupati
If Arizona Cardinals wish to protect Josh Rosen their quarterback, then it is imperative that they fix their attacking line. With offensive tackle Andre Smith released, the next line of action should be to let aged Mike Lupati enter the market and acquire a young and skillful offensive guard.
Atlanta Falcons: OG Andy Levitre
In the last few years, attacking guard Andy Levitre has lost his super touch. With his triceps injury, he is expected to miss 17 fixtures which aren’t a good thing for his club. All his team needs do right now act fast and get a replacement for the 30-year-old offensive guard.
Baltimore Ravens: QB Joe Flacco
With so much going on in the Ravens camp and the need to bolster all weak positions in the team, it would be wise to bench or let go of the 33-year-old quarterback and get a replacement.
Buffalo Bills: TE Charles Clay
Charles Clay has had his high moments. Between 2015-2017, the 29-year-old did really well. But his recent performance shows he’s reached the point of decline. So it’s best the Buffalo cross him off the list of starters and have him replaced by promising 24-year-old Jason Croom.
Carolina Panthers: TE Greg Olsen
Greg Olsen starred in every game from 2011 up until 2016. But in the last two years, he’s had only just 16 starts owing to foot injuries. This year saw the 33-year-old greatly underperform. With his decline, Panthers are expected to get a replacement for Olsen.
Chicago Bears: RT Bobbie Massie
While Chicago Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky can be said to be an effective player on the team, the same cannot be said of 29-year-old right tackle Bobbie Massie. Going by Massie’s performance this year, resigning him would be a huge mistake on the part of the Chicago Bears.
Cincinnati Bengals: DE Michael Johnson
The 31-year-old Johnson has not been able to do well in his last games. His play has suddenly become subject to the law of gravity. Going down with every game. With Sam Hubbard showing great signs of improvement, Bengals could as well drop Johnson and have him replaced by Hubbard.
Cleveland Browns: DT Trevon Coley
Cleveland Browns performed poorly last season. It would be wrong to pour all the blame on Trevon Coley, but it is imperative that the Browns address the issues on their defensive line before the start of next season. In order to achieve this, the Browns should consider strengthening their defensive line position by acquiring such players as Shelton, Sheldon Richardson, Grady Jarrett, and David Irving.
Dallas Cowboys: DT Antwaun Woods
Not saying Antwaun Woods is a liability to the team and should be dropped. But the Dallas Cowboys can bolster their front line with another amazing playmaker.
Denver Broncos: TE Jeff Heuerman
With Jake Butt not around, Jeff Heuerman saw an opportunity to play more games than usual this season. And he didn’t fail to impress until he got himself a severe injury- three broken ribs and a bruised lung. In his current state, Broncos would have to get a good replacement.
