Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller III has come under fire from Donald Trump after it was revealed that Paul Manafort lied to federal investigators thus breaching his plea agreement.
Trump called Robert Mueller a prosecutor with a conflict of interest and an undercover Democrat. On Twitter, he called the investigation a witch hunt and said that Muller was ruining lives and making people lie. He said that the propaganda media was making Robert Mueller look like a saint when he was not.
Trump tweeted that Bob Mueller was causing damage to the justice system and that Mueller was looking at things from one point of view while ignoring another point of view. He called Mueller and his co-investigators a group of aggrieved Democrats and said that they had spent a lot of money on doing nothing but ruining lives. He called for the prosecutors to be returned back to the Justice Department and Clinton Foundation.
Trump has been an ardent accuser of Muller, but these are his first comments after the disclosure that Paul Manafort lied to prosecutors. Trump also talked about how he has heard from witnesses who the Mueller team interviewed.
Trump said that the team around Mueller was treating people horribly and viciously, and destroying lives. A witness called Jerome Corsi has said the same thing. He is a conspiracy theorist, and he is also a friend of Roger J. Stone Jr who is a former adviser of Trump. He commented that he failed to sign a plea agreement that said that he intentionally misled investigators.
Jerome Corsi said that he wouldn’t mind going to jail for life, but he would not mislead a Federal Judge or any other person.
White House press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders turned away questions about President Trump’s view on the accusation that Paul Manafort misled investigators. Sarah Sanders said that she didn’t know of any discussions relating to a presidential pardon for Paul Manafort. Sarah Sanders repeated the White House petition on the investigation and said that the President was not involved in any wrongdoing or collusion.
Donald Trump recently gave written responses to questions from the Mueller team about whether he or his associates coordinated with Russia to interfere with the 2016 presidential election.
In September, Manafort signed a guilty plea agreement to two counts of conspiracy regarding consulting works for Ukraine. He signed the plea agreement as he faced a lengthy prison sentence for multiple criminal charges.
But Paul Manafort’s lawyers disputed that he mislead federal investigators. They said that Manafort had met repeatedly with Robert Mueller’s office and answered all the questions that he was asked truthfully as part of his agreement to cooperate with the investigation.
Apart from Paul Manafort, other Trump advisers like Rick Gates, George Papadopoulos and Michael T. Flynn has been charged with misleading federal investigators. Roger Stone has also been facing questions about his links to WikiLeaks.
