From Stage to Screen: Meghan Trainor Prepares to Star in Upcoming NBC Sitcom

Meghan Trainor is back. Following a well-deserved break after giving birth to her son, the pop princess has returned to the headlines, not as a singer but an upcoming television star.

2021 seems to be off to a great start, at least for the avid followers of critically acclaimed singer and songwriter Meghan Trainor. Last month, the artist announced her excitement about a new project – a comedy series attached to her recently finalized contract with NBCUniversal Television and Streaming Entertainment.

Meghan Elizabeth Trainor, or Meghan Trainor, first rose to fame as the powerful, sassy voice behind the record-shattering hit “All About That Bass.” The song, co-written by the artist, herself, toured local and international charts, seating itself as number one in 58 countries and the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.

“All About That Bass” later sold a whopping eleven million copies worldwide and was a certified diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Meghan shares the distinction with only four other female artists, and the RIAA Gold & Platinum awards for her hit single are given to 15 different tracks in music history.

Following the groundbreaking success of her official debut work under Epic Records, Meghan Trainor defined her career with themes of body positivity, empowerment, and acceptance. Her subsequent singles of “Dear Future Husband,” “Lips Are Movin’,” “Me Too,” “Like I’m Gonna Lose You,” and “No,” among others, marked her as an inspiration and a powerhouse.

Throughout her music career, she has won four ASCAP Pop Music Awards, two Billboard Music Awards, and the 2016 Grammy for “Best New Artist.” She has since expanded her portfolio, lending her voice to the “Smurfs: The Lost Village” and “Playmobil: The Movie.” Meghan has also been featured in countless publications and invited to numerous shows, including The Voice U.K., due to her infectious personality and dazzling wit.

This year, she is taking those well-loved traits and investing them into her upcoming sitcom. As the series is currently under work, Meghan is thrilled to have creative control over the material. Along with the sitcom’s undisclosed writing and direction team, the pop star will help develop the sitcom concept and script.

From both parties’ released statements, it is safe to say that fans aren’t the only ones excited about Meghan’s latest news. Susan Rovner of NBCUniversal Television and Streaming Entertainment stated, “In addition to being a phenomenally talented performer, Meghan is a vibrant and hilarious ray of light who is the perfect fit for NBC’s brand. We love the idea of introducing Meghan into the world of scripted comedy as well working with her to find all the creative and crazy ways she can engage with fans across our brands.”

Meghan Trainor will feature in the media giant’s latest innovation – a cross-platform venture which stretches to eight different channels. The empowering multi-hyphenated artist will experience non-stop exposure across NBCU’s network, cable, and streaming services, including NBC, Bravo, E!, and Oxygen, among others.

Sharing her thoughts on the deal, Meghan revealed that the partnership is “so beyond a dream come true.” She added, “I’m obsessed with and inspired by Susan and can’t wait to work with her and her incredibly talented team to bring our ideas to life.”

With no further hints as to the sitcom’s story and casting, fans remain intrigued by Meghan’s newest project with NBCU and anticipating her on-screen performance. Although with the award-winning singer’s glowing track record, they are confident that it will be nothing short of a masterpiece.
