For months, High School Musical alumni Zac Efron has been a topic among fans due to his sudden change in appearance.
While many speculated that he underwent plastic surgery, Efron finally broke his silence.
Zac Efron speaks up
Zac Efron, 34, returned to the red carpet for the first time in over three years to promote his latest movie, The Greatest Beer Run Ever.
During the event, he was asked about the online world’s hounding regarding his changing jaw-line.
Efron revealed that he was aware of plastic surgery rumors.
“My mom told me,” he shared. “I never really read the internet, so, I don’t really care.”
Regarding the plastic surgery rumors, Zac Efron shared that he broke his jaw after slipping on a puddle of water at home.
The actor had his jaw wired shut and got several stitches to fix the damage.
Efron said the plastic surgery rumors were funny, but speaking about the accident, he said:
“It sucks. I almost died, but we’re good.”
Last year, Zac Efron’s face caught the attention of the internet when he appeared in Bill Nye’s Earth Day special.
In the latest issue of Men’s Health, the High School Musical alumni shed light on the changed appearance of his jaw.
“When I ask him about this, he tells me that the masseter muscles, used for chewing, work together with the other muscles of the face “like a symphony,”” the piece reads.
“When he was injured, the muscles on the inside of his face and jaw had to compensate.”
“He works with a specialist and does physical therapy to mediate this, he says, but in Australie he took some time off from that, too.”
“”The masseters just grew,” he says, shrugging. “They just got really, really big.””
According to Zac Efron, he typically avoids social media unless he’s promoting a project.
Despite how much noise there was online, the actor wasn’t bothered.
“If I valued what other people thought of me to the extent that they may think that I do, I definitely wouldn’t be able to do this work,” Efron told Men’s Health.
Zac Efron is slated to appear alongside Bill Murray and Russell Crowe in The Greatest Beer Run Ever.
The film is a biographical action comedy film based on the book of the same name.
Efron plays the lead, John Donohue, a man in 1967 who travels to Vietnam to bring beer to his childhood friends fighting in the war.
The Greatest Beer Run is set to premiere on September 30 on Apple TV+.
