Award-winning music artist and actress Lady Gaga is starring alongside Adam Driver, and Oscar winners Al Pacino and Jared Leto, in the upcoming Ridley Scott film House of Gucci, which tells the chilling tale of the murder of Maurizio Gucci, one of the heirs to the Gucci fashion empire.
Lady Gaga plays Patrizia Reggiani, Maurizio Gucci’s former wife, who was accused of orchestrating the murder of her ex-husband, who left her for a much younger woman, Paola Franchi, portrayed by French actress Camille Cottin. The couple split in 1985, and in 1995, Maurizio was shot to death outside of his office in Milan.
Patrizia went through a scandalous trial and was convicted in 1998 for ordering the murder of her ex-husband. She was sentenced to 29 years in prison, which was later reduced to 26 years after an appeal. She was finally released in 2016 and tried her best to keep a low profile.
Adam Driver plays Maurizio Gucci in the film, while Al Pacino plays Aldo Gucci, Maurizio’s uncle. Jared Leto, on the other hand, plays the role of Paolo Gucci, the son of Aldo and cousin of Maurizio. English actor Jeremy Irons will play the role of Rodolfo Gucci, Maurizio’s father.
Scott’s film is mostly based on the 2012 book The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed by Sara Gay Forden.
Scheduled to be released on November 24, 2021, House of Gucci has been creating quite a stir lately as photos of Lady Gaga and Adam Driver during filming circulated among news sites and social media. The release date also marked the 100th anniversary of the House of Gucci.
Lady Gaga’s Instagram followers were excited when she posted a photo of herself together with Adam, both wearing skiing outfits while shooting in The Alps in Italy. That single post captured the interest of over four million fans who liked the photo. Some were candid enough to point out how effective Lady Gaga was to have convinced Adam to strike a pose with her outside of a studio, as the actor is well-known for shying away from cameras in public.
Apart from arousing excitement and curiosity among her fans across the globe over House of Gucci, there have also been negative comments on the film, including one from Patricia Gucci, the daughter of Aldo Gucci. Reports revealed that Patricia was quite unhappy about Al Pacino playing her father in the film and for being depicted as “a diminutive, overweight thug.”
Patricia describes her father as a good-looking blue-eyed man who was tall and slender at the same time. Her concerns about Pacino playing her father came about after she saw photos from the set during filming.
The House of Gucci is set to be released in a few cinemas, considering the restrictions due to the pandemic. They will be confirmed near the release date.
There are still no details about possible streaming options that will give movie enthusiasts and Lady Gaga fans access to the much-awaited film.
