The music industry is a world filled with established artists and budding artists with remarkable talents and gifts. In this sea of skills and accomplishments, aspiring stars often find it quite challenging to reach for the spotlight and make a name for themselves. However, those with a distinctive flair and a unique voice always manage to rise on top. Such is the case with Lil MC, a bilingual rapper, singer, producer, podcaster, hip hop educator and comic book creator.
On a mission to carve a name for herself in the history books and leave a mark on the industry, Lil MC emerges with a passion-filled journey that has become the driving force behind her career. Unlike other artists who create with money, fame and glory at the forefront of their minds, this multi-talented artist combines her music with teaching hip-hop history in all its forms. With her colleague Amani Jade, Lil MC created a women’s empowerment in hip hop curriculum by teaching three different organizations the art of MCing, producing, songwriting, performance, and the true history and culture of hip hop. This history recognizes all the women who have been at the frontlines building the culture since its inception. “I don’t just acquire the knowledge of the art and keep it for myself, but I find joy and fulfillment in sharing this knowledge with others so that hopefully fewer children grow up feeling silenced,” she explained.
This up-and-coming powerhouse artist has shown that the best way to achieve originality and authenticity is by being subjective, crafting each song with a storyline that unveils her musical prowess, personal experiences and raw emotions. This way, Lil MC can still distinguish herself from thousands of other artists in the industry, creating a significant buzz that puts her ahead of the competition.
Aside from creating her music, this must-watch figure has also been using her platform to advocate for mental health and present herself as an example to others that it is possible to heal from traumas. With her music, Lil MC shares her story of alcohol and drug addiction and her struggle with PTSD, depression, anxiety, and multiple suicide attempts alongside raising her son. “I am a single mom, I had my son at 21 years old, and despite my struggles, I’ve never let that deter me from raising my child as I’ve learned to compartmentalize my pain and to put him first even when I was suffering,” she shared.
Since setting her feet in the music landscape, Lil MC has been taking center stage as she continues to put her music in context and send across powerful messages of moving forward and pursuing dreams against all odds. Her latest song project, OMG feat Cozzee, produced by Unlearn the World, is now featured on NBA 2K21 and making a wave on mainstream media. Her upcoming project: Riding the Pink Cloud, will be released July 2 on all DSPs – a seven-song project produced by DJ Loot and promises enormous success.
With skills that are directed to not only one field of expertise, this multifaceted personality is also the co-host of Ratchet and Woke Podcast with co-host Unlearn The World – airing every Friday on Spotify, apple music, and google podcast. In an interview, she shared that her motivation to strive for greatness comes from life itself. “I completely altered my reality just through tapping into my higher self and listening to my intuition. I’m motivated to work as hard as I do because I know I am meant for greatness; not only that, but I know I’m meant to help others recognize and believe in their greatness,” she shares.
Lil MC is determined to revolutionize the music scene through her music and teaching hip-hop history in the coming years. “You won’t recognize me in 5 years. I will be touring the world, teaching my women’s empowerment hip hop curriculum that I created nationally, performing in Arenas, winning Grammys, and being a pioneer in changing the way we perceive and treat women in hip hop” she passionately explained.
