Music has always served not only as a medium of self-expression but also as a channel for people who want to inspire, influence, and impact lives and communities for the better. And it is in this particular art form that inspirational R&B soul artist Letasia Leak has found solace and a platform to be at the service of others.
Growing up, Letasia Leak has been exposed to all types of music. Being raised by her grandparents allowed her to appreciate every genre, and she learned to love numerous artists, such as Sam Cook, Miles Davis, Ray Charles, Al Green, Fats Domino, Shirley Caesar, Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, James Brown, and The Beatles. With her oldest aunt and uncles serving as local DJs and frequent hosts to parties that she would sneak into, it was not surprising how Letasia Leak became so attuned to beats and rhythms. Years down the road, this independent musician would stumble upon more and more icons in the scene, gravitating toward Anita Baker, Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill, Jill Scott, Alanis Morissette, Nirvana, Beyonce, and more.
Her passion for helping heal and feed the hearts and souls of others sprung forth from her own experiences with trauma while living in Prince George’s County, Maryland, when she was young. Since her parents were still in high school when they had her, Letasia Leak found a home in the arms of her paternal grandmother, a Southern Baptist who serves as the reason behind her intimate familiarity with prayer meetings, Bible studies, AWANA, choir rehearsals, Sunday services, and more.
Since she was five, Letasia Leak had graced people with her vocal gift, and by the age of eight, she could be seen writing poetry and songs. And while she never had much luck in persuading people to sing and produce the songs she had written, the breakthrough she was looking for would come once she fully embraced her own talents.
Deciding to sing and produce her own songs as an independent artist, this North Carolina Central University graduate, who also has a master’s degree in teaching and learning from Nova Southeastern University, now makes a mark in the lives of others by teaching and guiding young minds and letting the world hear her creations.
Letasia Leak boasts an incredible discography composed of healing music. Her productions, known for their characteristic “food for the soul” quality, allow listeners a glimpse into who she is as an artist and as an individual with aspirations. And as an emerging inspirational R&B standout, this singer is gaining traction across the country.
This instant favorite of lovers of soul, rhythm, blues, jazz, and inspirational tracks will continue banking on her skills as a writer and musician to act as a relatable beacon of hope and positivity for people worldwide. Ultimately, Letasia Leak aims for her artistry to become a tool in encouraging listeners to not only love the people around them but also find deep joy and pride in who they are.
