LaTraye Johnson was raised in Texarkana, Texas, and grew up in a Liberty-Eylau middle class African American suburb community. As a child, she spent most of her time playing select softball and traveling from state to state to participate in talent shows. She considers music her first love, and from an early age, she made up her mind to pursue a career professionally in the music industry.
She relocated to Houston to attend Texas Southern University four days out of Queen City High School. LaTraye’s music industry endeavor started in Houston, where she is learning the ropes about music from J Prince and his team at Rap-A-Lot Records.
J Prince and his sister, Ronda Price, do a holiday turkey and meal giveaway every year. Ronda Prince is an example of how a female boss should move, and LaTraye Johnson follows her “pit bull in a skirt” approach. A move born out of her desire to help and having watched J Prince help artists, she knew that was what she wanted to do. After learning the industry’s ins and outs, LaTraye founded her company, Redcarpet Dynasty, to assist artists and make their dreams come true through marketing and promotion.
Redcarpet Dynasty’s services range from creating custom campaigns merging their services and their client’s goals of achieving breakthrough success on the radio, on the internet, and in the marketplace, while at the same time setting the proper foundation for long-term success in the music and media industry. Through the activities and inputs of the Redcarpet Dynasty, there is a guarantee that artists will gain the recognition they seek, which will result in maximum public awareness. RCD is committed to the essential process required for artist development and aims to be the number one choice for the artists currently on their roster and potential clients. RCD now offers all the fundamental essentials necessary for successful radio promotion, internet marketing, direct marketing, tour promotion, and consultancy services that capitalize on opportunities that contribute to career growth.
Away from RCD, on a personal level, LaTraye has had the honor of opening for music artists such as Monica, Shirley Murdock, Mystical, among several other musicians, including Houston’s HTown. And even though she was at some point a victim of the justice system because of miseducation, she was victorious in the end. “Your mistakes don’t define your future,” she concluded.
LaTraye admits that the ride has not been comfortable because she was in college at some point. For three years, all she did was try to complete probation, right her wrongs, and make her family proud. And in between all these, losing members of her family and not being able to attend funerals or say goodbye was the most challenging part of it all. However, after two years at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, she returned to doing what she loves.
Redcarpet Dynasty caters to independent artists and small businesses who need the extra push and motivation to grow their company or music brand more. LaTraye believes the difference between her company and her competition is that her company genuinely cares about the client’s success. Because of this, extra attention is committed to making sure all paperwork is intact so that they become exposed to as many opportunities as possible in their chosen business endeavor and careers.
