Following the housekeeper fiasco she found herself in two weeks ago regarding the loss of her dogs, music industry icon Britney Spears is now on the hot seat again for another confrontation from a housekeeper. But the good news is that prosecutors have decided not to file charges against the celebrity for allegedly swatting her housekeeper’s phone off her hands after a dispute that happened between the two parties in Spears’ home last month.
Ventura County District Attorney Erik Nasarenko said in a statement on Wednesday that there wasn’t enough evidence that a crime had occurred. Authorities have firmly stated that evidence was insufficient, highlighting the lack of injury to the housekeeper nor damage to the mobile phone involved.
The said incident happened when the housekeeper returned to the singer’s home at around 10:25 am on Monday. The housekeeper then shared that she was allegedly confronted by Britney Spears for her dog’s well-being. The conversation quickly escalated and turned physical, with Spears allegedly swatting the phone off of the housekeeper’s hands while addressing the dog’s veterinarian on the other side of the line.
According to the singer’s lawyer, Mathew Rosengart, the case was nothing but an exaggerated tabloid story. “As I have previously stated, this was nothing more than a sensationalized tabloid fodder—a manufactured and overblown ‘he said, she said’ regarding alleged damage to a cellphone protector,” said Rosengart.
The lawyer explained that this is not anything usual in the lives of Hollywood’s biggest celebrities. “If this involved Jane Doe rather than Britney Spears, it would not have been pursued or covered at all. Anyone can make an accusation, but this should never have made it this far, and we are glad the DA’s Office has done the right thing. Sadly, it is apparent that some have learned nothing from the past, and we sincerely hope the media and others will be more respectful of Ms. Spears’ future,” Rosengart told the press.
The official statement of the DA’s Office reads, “During the argument, Spears was alleged to have slapped a phone out of the housekeeper’s hand. The housekeeper indicated that the screen protector of the phone was damaged. The housekeeper had no visible injuries.”
On top of the recent case, Britney Spears has attracted the buzz of many gossip platforms since last year regarding her ongoing conservatorship battle with her father, Jamie Spears. Rosengart further said that Britney Spears is seeking to remove her father as the conservator of her estate, the hearing of which will happen in Los Angeles probate court on September 29. Jamie Spears also expressed his stance on the matter and said that he is willing to step aside.
The singer testified in June that his father’s conservatorship was “abusive.” Britney Spears also explained that the relationship exerted undue control over her life and personal decisions. The singer further added that Jamie Spears was using access to see her two sons as a means of urging her to comply with his demands.
