From organizing book clubs to planning a date for teleconferencing, it seems that the world has opened a lot of doors to endless possibilities in communication because of technology.
The digital age has introduced several changes in how people live today, from sending letters that arrive after a week or two, to receiving text messages that were sent just a second ago. Updating friends about one’s life has become less troublesome, especially for people that are built to socialize and interact.
However, this age has also brought some distressing issues. Because of social media, teenagers look onto Instagram or Facebook for approval. They post pictures and expect that if the photo had a lot of likes, it meant that they looked good in it. If the number of likes did not convince the teenager, he or she would opt to delete the said post and feel sad about it afterward. This is the reality that Brandon Mesen wants to address through his music and talent.
Brandon Mesén, leader and founder of Mesen Around, has played music for over 500 shows and has appeared in radio stations around 100 times. He was even on Juka Radio in Germany for an hour, with 70,000 people who listened to him play his craft. Talent has always been within Mesén, even when he was still a child.
Back when he was little, he would always find himself humming tunes with the birds and tapping on school desks just for fun. He then received a miniature drum set when he was at the age of six. At that time, he never knew that he could make music his lifetime profession. However, when he reached the age of fifteen and received a Ukulele from a friend, he began developing and perfecting his craft. He believed that music kept him sane all throughout his life – expressing himself by doing what he loved.
Mesén’s career inception did not start in the middle, and he started it from the ground. He remembered playing music while being barefoot in the streets of West Chester, Pennsylvania, and his dream did not stop there. He wanted to go beyond. That is why after a while, Mesén was able to climb to the big leagues and create smash hit records and top-selling albums afterward. Still, this did not lead him astray from his humble beginnings. He continues to rise to fame while being himself, a strange person with a bucketful of dreams.
Because of this pressing problem with teenagers succumbing to depression and isolation, Mesén wants to send a message of peace and love through his music. That is why in every outlet that he can get his hands on, he never fails to send his simple statement that “it feels good to be a weird kid.” He launched this campaign with a reflection of his own life history.
Mesén grew up being somewhat strange from his peers, but he never felt that it set him back from reaching his dreams. He believes that the youth nowadays are controlled with so much fear that they have become afraid of going out from their shells. Mesén wanted to eradicate that type of thought process and for the youth to be free to be themselves, to be who they want to be.
Brandon Mesén’s debut album “Feels Good to be a Weird Kid” will be released this Summer of 2020. In the meantime, if you want to hear how he materializes his message to the world, log on to Spotify and Apple Music. You can also find him on Youtube and Facebook.
