Though resilience, tenacity, and courage to fight off challenges are definite attributes to transformation, Kristy also relies on forming an emotional connection with her clients to gain their trust. This enables Kristy to push her clients beyond their comfort zone throughout their journey of holistic wellness.
Unlike her contemporaries who emphasize more on quality and quantity of food while following a prescribed diet plan, her programs include a deeper focus on mindset, limiting beliefs, and current health status of her clients. This holistic view helps her clients get over the yoyo dieting effect of weight loss which solely focuses on calories counting, diet plans, and numbers. According to her, these numbers only increase stress and frequency of quitting, hence the weight rollercoaster ride.
While working with her clients, Kristy Kilcup often gives the following tips to develop a positive, intuitive relationship with their body.
Pay attention to the words you use
Be cautious about your I AM statements. Your mind does not know the difference between true or false statements. “I am lazy, I am fat, I am stupid” all result in a negative sense of self-worth (even when you don’t really mean what you say).
Pay attention to how your body feels
We make decisions based on feelings, not facts. We have emotional attachments to specific words we use and thoughts we think. Creating awareness of your words, as mentioned above, and your default thoughts are the first step in your transformation journey.
Pay attention when you get caught up in a moment
We all are guilty of this. We often get caught up in our ruminating thoughts at one time or another. However, being able to catch yourself, stop, breathe and give yourself permission to take a step back for a moment allows you to consider a different perspective or, at the very least, take a pause in order to move your body out of the sympathetic nervous response.
Evaluate your relationship with food
Though a primary source of nourishment, food, at times, can be used as a coping mechanism to deal with emotions. What other strategies can you implement to replace food as the go-to means when stressed, angry, sad or afraid?
Your state of health is as important as diet and exercise
It is easier to lose weight when your body is healthy. It seems counterintuitive, but a body will be able to more readily use stored fat and sugar as sources of fuel once cortisol, insulin and sugar levels are regulated. A cellular support supplement that addresses inflammation, gut health and hormone modulation is a great addition to your health routine.
Even if the plan sounds easy to understand and employ, the path is difficult, and Kristy’s “dive in anyway” attitude pushes her clients to accept the challenges and overcome the hurdles. However, to address the ongoing struggle of overwhelm and lack of motivation, Kristy’s Weight Loss ACCELERATOR online program + Group Coaching is delivered weekly to reduce overwhelm, address stress and uncover the underlying issue behind the weight gain.
When asked about her mantra for life, Kristy remarks, “ The journey is never easy AND you are always worth the effort. I believe that our life’s journey challenges our resolve and, as we work through our beliefs and self-sabotaging behaviours, we realize the resourcefulness that lives inside of us is stronger than our disbelief.”
