Society today looks up to leaders who will spearhead efforts to fight for social change. In a time where racial inequality and racism continue to cripple America, leaders like Kendrick Jones rise up to the occasion to boldly speak out against injustice and use their platform to push their advocacies forward.
At only twenty-three years old, Kendrick knows how to lead well and serve the community with a fiery passion for people and justice. A product of California State University- Dominguez Hills, Kendrick Jones holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Africana Studies. He also has a Masters of Arts in Education and is currently pursuing a doctorate in Educational Leadership, Administration, and Policy at Pepperdine University.
Beyond anything, Kendrick’s greatest passion is fighting to dismantle inequality, injustice, and the lack of representation, especially among the minority population. The South Los Angeles-based leader always had an inclination towards public leadership. He started in government relations at an early age. While studying at California State, Kendrick sat on student government, playing a role in the elected student body as the Vice President at only twenty years old. This opportunity to serve afforded Kendrick Jones the chance to lobby at the California State Capital, where he represented and advocated for thousands of students from his alma mater at the California Higher Education Student Summit.
Kendrick would continue pursuing leadership positions to continue serving the public and private sectors. He would work as a Project Manager for a non-profit based in Los Angeles, which became a stepping stone for political opportunities. Kendrick Jones would serve as a Media Consultant for a congressional candidate in California while he was in graduate school.
As an African American man in America, Kendrick knows the debilitating effects of racism all too well. “I have often been subject to negativity simply for having the nerve to exist in a space that is dominated by men whose privilege overpower their reality,” shares Kendrick Jones. “I am not alone. With so many stories being featured in the media of false representation of Black Americans, I felt the need to vocalize my own successes in an effort to support and uplift those from communities similar to my own.”
As a leader, Kendrick works hard to empower people- especially from the Black community- to build up the courage to speak up and fight for their rights while also advocating for his brothers and sisters every opportunity he gets to do so. He has stories of his own to share of negative encounters with systemic racism and apartheid in society. Fueled by the hope to see better days for minorities in the country, Kendrick Jones supports and champions programs and policies that will minimize and hopefully even end racism in the nation.
Today, Kendrick works in the California State Senate and works closely with society members to tend to the various needs of constituents in the district he represents. The political leader desires to fight injustice towards the oppressed and give everyone a chance at a better life by using his platform to call for social change in the California region and beyond. Kendrick Jones does not let his age or race stop him from dreaming big dreams for himself and his community.
