Flytrex is among the most innovative delivery providers that has made waves for utilizing drones for its services in the US.
The company is one of many to take advantage of the technological innovations in the modern era.
Flytrex was created in Israel in late 2013, but it wouldn’t be until 2017 that the company would launch its operations.
The first operational, regulatory approved delivery services were offered in Reykjavik, Iceland, where it became the leader in on-demand delivery services through autonomous vehicles.
The company became the first in the world to offer complete end to end drone delivery solutions.
Delivery drone capabilities
The drones of Flytrex are capable of carrying packages that are up to 6.6lbs or 3kg.
Flytrex uses a fastened delivery box so customers can get their orders the way it was packed.
With a fire release mechanism, the package is lowered from eighty feet, ensuring a quiet and secure delivery – from food and drinks to a dozen eggs.
They are also capable of traveling a distance of approximately 6 aerial miles.
The drones generally travel at 32 mph, allowing the company to reach customers in less than five minutes, keeping the food warm or cold by the time they arrive at their destination.
Flytrex drones are also autonomous, which means they don’t require anyone piloting them.
The drones are completely electric, leaving less carbon footprint compared to traditional delivery models.
Yariv Bash, CEO and co-founder of Flytrex, said:
“It’s a lot faster and a lot quieter. We offer a much better solution for the customer and the restaurant. It’s a win-win for everyone.”
Despite their innovative concept, the company has a team of FAA-certified drone operators overseeing each delivery to ensure a seamless operation.
The Flytrex app allows customers within the company’s delivery zone to order food from partnering restaurants.
The app’s services are contact free, allowing users to order from the comfort of their home.
Yariv Bash said the company is focused on suburban markets as it is economically and strategically viable to service those areas.
However, he also discussed the process of getting clearance from the FAA to fly the drones, saying it was easier to secure in suburban skies than urban settings.
“This is a very nasty process,” Bash said of the FAA clearance process.
“Only three companies focused on home drone delivery are doing what we’re doing.”
