The “alpha male” fallacy is constantly disseminated via media fodder, dating advice, and psychological analysis.
A January 2019 article in The Week magazine said that the best man to beat President Donald Trump and his “alpha male posturing” in 2020 is a woman. It implies that alpha equals petulance and vulgarity. Rich Gosse, Chairman of The Society of Single Professionals, told the Sacramento Bee in 2017 that President Trump is a “dominant alpha male” because he’s tall, wealthy, and a “narcissistic womanizer.”
A true alpha is none of the above.
Alpha Wolves in Captivity
“Alpha male” in its contemporary form originates from Dr. David Mech’s work. He’s observed wolf behavior for six decades. Mech’s 1970 book The Wolf: Ecology and Behavior of an Endangered Species labeled the aggressors “alphas.” He concluded that wolves become pack leaders through aggression.
Mech’s 1999 follow-up study, “Alpha Status, Dominance, and Division of Labor in Wolf Packs,” observed wolves in the wild. His previous work studied captive wolves. Mech equated the first study to humans in prison. Confined spaces and a lack of freewill led to unnatural, violent behavior.
Alpha Wolves in the Wild
Wild wolf pups left their packs around six months old. Alpha males sought alpha females. Courtships were similar to humans — cuddling, rubbing faces together, and sleeping together. The alpha couple mated. The rest of the pack abstained to prevent overpopulation and food shortages.
Alpha females selected den location and often dominated the pack during pregnancy. Meanwhile alpha male wolves led expeditions for food. Alpha males regained control after females gave birth. But alpha couples stayed “married.” Alpha harmony was essential to pack well-being, similar to households with a happy mom and dad.
Dr. Mech appealed to professors and his publisher to discontinue disseminating his book. None have obliged. Arlen J, founder of the ALPHA by Prodigy Mindset™ Gym, has studied Mech’s work extensively. The 1999 updates provided clarity. Alpha is a physiological stasis that all men have the ability to achieve.
Journey to Discovery
Arlen J, a mindset coach for the ALPHA by Prodigy Mindset™ Gym, was consumed by negativity and failure in his youth. He began meditating for mental and emotional lucidity. Arlen began training other men on mindset conditioning. The ALPHA by Prodigy Mindset™ Gym was born as a result. It guides men to the command of mid-frequency brainwaves.
“ALPHA puts mental hygiene first. It is mind over everything,” Arlen said. “If you are not focused on the mind first and foremost, then you are not focused at all.”
The program began as a set of mental exercises known as “Revitalizing the Alpha Male,” or R.A.M. Alpha males are not aggressive, violent manipulators. They are mentally-balanced and self-aware.
“A man who knows how to utilize the alpha brain wavelength for the purpose of consciousness and the greater good of all mankind is the only kind of alpha male to exist,” he said. “I was a decade into practicing and teaching mediation before I knew that it produced the alpha brain wavelength. It was like learning to drive and doing it for 10 years before hearing the word car, truck, or motorcycle.”
Ned Herrmann is best known for creating the Herrmann Brain Dominance Instrument (“HBDI”). The brain is an “electrochemical organ” capable of producing 10 watts of power, Herrman posited. This electrical activity comes in the form of brainwaves: alpha, beta, theta, and delta waves.
Beta waves are low-amplitude and high frequency. They facilitate communication. Beta waves are also linked to depression. Theta waves are active in non-engaging situations like dreams and television watching. Delta waves are the slowest and highest in amplitude. They are present in dreamless sleep states.
Alpha waves are high amplitude and mid-frequency. They occur when goals are accomplished. Alpha is reflection, satisfaction, creativity and well-being. A 2015 study published in the journal Cortex found that increased alpha oscillations with low doses of electric current triggered creativity. Researchers also concluded that low doses of electricity could treat depression.
All Men Are Alphas
Arlen J said mental exercises are similar to the practice habits of professional athletes. Basketball players shoot hundreds of times daily. It develops muscle memory and the expectation of the ball going through the hoop. It’s the same for baseball players in batting cages and football wide receivers running precise routes.
There’s never a point of “arrival” and resting on their laurels. Connecting to and maintaining alpha wavelengths is a daily responsibility. It’s a lifestyle choice.
“Repetition and practice span athletes’ entire careers, but personal development spans our entire lives,” Arlen J said. “We must train accordingly and gain the perspective that our spiritual evolution is everlasting.”
